Default 928 project update

Alright I have been seeing all the wrecked/crashed/stolen 928s lately and it has been downright depressing, so I figured I would post a happy story

On feb 24th of 2005, I purchased a 81 euro 928S blk/blk w/ S4 bumper caps and a S4 hatch and wing, however the origonal engine had a headgasket blow (4.7L S) and scored 1 of the cyl and pistons and actually cracked the block, the engine was taken out in 97, and a replacement block and BRAND NEW set of 97.975 origonal mahle pistons were purchased, all this came with the car.

I absolutley HATE the early style fuses though, and as I had previously had a 86 that was vandalized and written off I had an entire 86 wiring harness, engine, computers the works,

so at this time I have since the purchase date, torn out the ENTIRE factory wiring harness, origonal alarm, everything,
I then installed an 86 wiring loom and adapted it to accept the S4 lights,
I had to change the steering column out as the 81 was missing a vital switch,

I have replaced the front brake lines, MC and suspension to that from an 86.5 (gotta love the 4 pots)

I have also swapped the fuel tank as the steel sleeve in the old tank was rusty and loosing crap into the tank,

the car is an auto and I wanted a stick so while I had everything out I installed a 5 speed bracket, (this 81 euro didnt have it)

I then installed the 86.5 engine with a wrinkle black powdercoated intake and valve covers.

I was planning on loosing the manual fan so I fabricated up a bracket for the throttle linkage to work RIGHT off the trottlebody, however I decreased the throw the gas pedal acutally has,

I also checked every vacuum pod, and vacuum componant,

after installing the engine and putting all the relays in and fuses and doing an electrical system check, and of course topped up the oil I found that everything should be good to go, I then turned the ign w/o fuel to build up some oil pressure and then enabled the fuel but it didnt come on, so I jumped it to prime it and found out that the 81 euro had the fuel lines in reverse to that of the 86 so the pressure produced a leak from a hose clamp, swapped the fuel lines around went to prime it again, and the front drivers side injector started pissing fuel out of the housing,

Heinrich was going to send me one up but I had a gut feeling that I should buy a new one, so I did, installed it today after work
I tried to see if the fuel pump would turn on by itself, no go, so I checked and the LH brain relay wasnt clicking, tried another it worked, the ezf one was working, but still the fuel pump relay was not working, tried another no go, I have no idea why but it wouldnt work, and I checked the 85/86 terminals and they are producing a steady 12.36, and yet when I tried a known good relay in there it didnt kick over EVEN when the EZF and LH were engaged, so I jumpered it and fired the car up, it didnt want to run but was catching
so I unjumpered the fuel pump and hooked up the alt as I hadnt had the belt on it, once that was on, I got it running but the idle was pulsing sorta dropping off then catching and when it would drop I could hear that the injectors were not pulsing, and the car wouldnt rev up, after abit of this the cars idle became almost normal, however it still wouldnt rev up,
I then thought ok probably a vacuum leak, so I popped the vacuum line off the EZF while running and sure enough no vacuum,
so my conclusion is that when I installed the new fuel injector I must have managed to unplug a line somehow and this is the result, but I will not find out till tomorrow, and on wednesday I will be putting insurance on it and daily driving it if I can get it idlng properly,
oh the car has an aftermarket exhaust and I put a bung on it for the O2 sensor.

pictures are at http://www.geocities.com/cjensan928s/928/ there are pics from when I got it and the engine and other bits and pieces,
I cant wait until tomorrow now

and all this has been accomplished in less than 2 months, and that is waiting for some parts from 928 intl as well (thanx guys)

An impressive recovery effort! Glad that you're (almost) back in the saddle again.

Peter, yes this is at the same time as holding down a full time job,
and I cant wait, I ended up getting a ride in Sharkmeisters 85 the other day ad reminded me exactly why I loved these cars so much.

So why did you decide to buy that overpriced injector? Couldn't wait a few more days?

actually I just had a gut feeling,

but I am needing some suggestions guys.
the car needs me to pump the trottle to start and stay running for a few sec, then she will run on her own, however it is almost a drop off then it recatches it,
after awhile the idle balances out but I am getting LOTS of black smoke, so it is running rich,
I also observed on the pulses that in time with the pulse there is a black puff as well,
when the idle is steady the vacuum (HVAC line) is at just over 10in hg, this would tell me that either I have a MASSIVE vacuum leak or the something else isnt 100%. and due to the black smoke, that doesnt indicate a vacuum leak as it would be causing a too lean condition,
I checked the vacuum at the dampner as well as the EZF box and neither are getting vacuum, I was wondering if these are a WOT vacuum only? or if they should have manifold vacuum?
at this time I am at abit of a loss as to what to do and am needing some direction as to what step to take at this time.

I forgot to add, I am getting spark on both banks, however I dont know about fuel, would there be something causing 1 bank of injectors not to turn on? but if the injectors didnt wouldnt it cut spark as well? TIA
