Mike.." The manager told me he had $6200 in it right now plus whatever this guy is going to charge." this information means absolutely NOTHING the value of a car which is NOT running if far far less ....if he tows it through the wholesale auction he would be LUCKY to get $1,000 . All dealers know they will not make money on every car. But the problem with it not running is as mentioned then there is no way to check the clutch and transmission or the air conditioning or easily get an inspection. I also seriously doubt that he paid that much for the car but you never know dealers do make mistakes. Also note that the speedometer /odometer was probably replaced when the car car into the US so it is TMU true miles unknown.

Euro's don't automatically all have LSD either, mine doesn't, 5-speeds might be a different story.

Is the shop that did the WP/TB anywhere close? Offer to have it towed there to have it checked out with a PPI. As the usual saying goes, if it doesn't pass, you'd only be out the 200 or so it would cost rather than the (outrageous) 6200 the dealer wants.

If it was me I'd walk in there with $2k cash (all $100s). If worse comes to worse you can always part it out and get at least most of that back.

The fact that the dealer hasn't already spent the money to get it running means that he's afraid of throwing good money after bad (ie, he thinks it could be too costly to fix or won't be worth it when done), and he may go for the sure bet of getting out of it with only a small loss if you offer it.

The car was owned by a doctor in St. Louis. He had about $3K worth of stuff done by the shop I know here locally. He traded it in on a Mercedes in another town. He said he had $6200 in it but they were asking $8900. He acted like he was disgusted with the car since he cannot sell it, especially now.

Jim, that is a good point about the mileage. Can someone run a Carfax for me? VIN is WP0ZZZ92ZES840352. That should give me some insight on the mileage.

Thanks

The best carfax would be able to tell you is how many miles were racked up (a billiards reference for all you pinball freaks) since it was imported - which is also what the OD should tell you. What you won't know is how many kilometers (a metric reference for all you yanks) were put on in the old country.

just consider if the dealership cannot fix it easily or cheaply, you probably won't be able to either. if they could, they would fix it and sell it for alot more.

I've played everything from Atari to Kings Quest to Half-Life 2, some still can't hold a candle to the old-fashioned pinball machines (of which there's some very cool ones out still). Sorry to interject.
