A 928 "Hangs-In" at The Tribute to Le Mans
A few 996 & 993 drivers at the California Speedway today were
closely watching their mirrors for a passing 928, I'm sure, since the
fastest lap time was a 1:40 by a 996 and Mark Anderson's 928 was
in the low 1:40's.

Watching Mark Anderson passing that Red Ferrari #454 on the front straight-a-way was the most exciting part of the afternoon. Mark was all over his a$$, and finally passed him. Joe Fan also tangled with the same F-car, but punctured a tire (I think), and had to come into the pits for a tire change. Not only does Mark Anderson drive, he also pumps the gas, and helps change the tires . Man, talk about being versitle For those of you that haven't been out to watch and root form our 928 brethern, shame on you, your really missing out on a great experience Sorry to say, my brand new digital camcorder malfunctioned What was the final finishing order of the 90 minute cars )

Well, when you saw how many of 996s/993s handled turned #9, you thought that the
race was really a DE session. So, maybe the 928 driver needs to have a POC DE
class for the next Tribute race.
Luckily for many, the race wasn't at Willow. Fontana is basically, "just set the cruise control."

It was obvious from the stands that many drivers needed more track practice time
to deal with turn 9. The question many asked:
So, do I come in tight & then go wide, or do I come in wide & then go tight?

What a great weekend. We had 6 928's on the track and several more in the pits. This event is the highlight of the POC season and Speed Channel will be airing the event in a few weeks. I was honored to have been selected to have one of the camera's mounted on the rear of my car (as seen in top post). The endurance race is broken into to groups with the first running 4 hours and the second running 1.5. Both races are run simultaneously but started in 2 separate groups and we were on pole in the second group. Joseph was my co driver and we had a long list on volunteers in the pits headed up by Jim Bailey. My best battle was with a Ferrari 360 GT. We traded places several times but we remained victorious. The Ferrari driver even came up to us afterward and commented on how surprised he was to be racing with a 928 and loose. I guess his $460k machine needs a better tune up. We finished first in class and first overall. It doesn't get much better than this.
