The bolt (sometimes refered to as shoulder bolt) that holds the idler arm assembly on. Anybody know what the torque value is for the '87 S4? I can't find it in the WSMs or online anywhere.
Thanks!

John.........I assume the timing belt idler arm?
If so the WSM refers to the arm as the 'tensioning roller carrier' and the bolt as 'shaft bolt' WSM 15-10 ~ 15-13. Can't see the bolt size or thread pitch but the general torque specs are on WSM 10-09.

The pivot bolt (in MY '78 - '86) is a standard M8 thread - into the pump body. It is torqued at a standard 20 N.M/15 ft.lb.
IIRC, the S4 pivot stud has the same threads, so I would use the same torque - with a drop of Loctite 'blue'. Check the thread size - it may have been bumped to 10mm, but 8mm is my recollection.

The counter sunk hex socket screw should be installed with thread locking compound (blue locktite) and only tightened firmly. Otherwise, it may not be reused and become difficult to remove, stripping the socket, which is quite common, and requires drilling out the screw's head.
The pivot bolt that's mounted on the water pump should be installed with a thread sealant (not a locking compound) and shouldered to the water pump. It's not going anywhere.
