The passenger mirror on my 88 S4 is loose?? or broken, not sure which. The mirror housing can be raised about a 1/4 inch straight up and can spin around on the inner post. Can this be tightend? If so, how do you acces the post? Do you have to go through the door panel or can you back out the hex head bold that holds the mounting plate to the car and reach it that way. I have heard that if you back out that hex head to far a nut on the other side will be lost forever. It seems as if the only thing holding the mirror to the car is cable going through the inner shaft. HELP !!!!!!!!!

It sounds like the pivot mechanism has come loose, tou and remoove the upper part of the mirror to check. YOu need to remove the mirror glass by unlocking the lock ring. remove the 4 8mmscrews that hold the mirror base down. that should expose the mechanism for the adjuster .
