Question Seat cushion internals

Are there separate foam pieces available to form the four wide raised sections of the lower seat cushion?
On my driver's seat ('80), the back two sections are flat - as though nothing is inside the leather 'roll'. I recall being told that the first owner had some foam removed - but I never did anything about it, until now. Buying a 'new' seat cushion, thinking it was all one piece ( with four raised sections), was apparently not the correct step: They are not part of this cushion.
It appears that four separate foam pieces ( of which I need two) are required - or I bought a uniquely modified seat cushion. Confident that something is missing, I do not want to strip the seat down without some better advice - so if you've pulled one of these apart, TIA for your experience.

I went and talked to a local upholstry shop about improving the seats a bit. The leather doesn't sit well in all the horizontal slots. I had tried pulling the covers off and glueing the leather down into the grooves with 3M 777 and it really didn't help anything. What the leather guy told me is he thought the leather had shrunk a bit and that to get proper sculpting he would need to add some leather bits. It may be that your PO discovered the same thing and decided to remove some foam rather than add leather. I thought I had some photos of the seat minus the cover, but can't seem to locate them.

I've just taken my passenger seat out. Much of the leather is very good, but what isn't good is as brittle as a Corn Flake (the cereal).

Anyway, what's involved in getting the leather covering off? It looks like there are a few points on the seat bottom at which a wire is holding the leather to the frame. After severing whatever connections there are on the bottom, will the leather cover pull off? Are there less visible connections elsewhere?

Any advise is appreciated.

Oh, one other seat related question - My car does not have power seats, but there is an electrical wire beneath the seat. Would I be too far off in assuming that this is the power that a power seat would simply plug into? If so, new power seats are all the more tempting.

Thanks for any info.

I have redone a couple of sets of seats for myself and have the following opservations.1st....They are very hard to do correctly...and that is why many of the inner sections pull up and shrink so bad. They where never hog ringed by the supplier correctly.Instead of pulling the"bones" together and securing with a hog ring I have found that a lot of the outter upholstery is just pulled into the foam.2nd....It will take a lot of extra foam to get a replacement set of "skins" to fit and look nice...and a lot of ons and offs to do it.I spent a whole weekend just doing one set of seats...and I had all the extras that I needed on hand.Yes you can just plug a power seat right in.

Garth...........there was a recent thread https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/188395-to-chip-or-not-to-chip.html showing a refurbished interior by 928 Specialists. I believe the seats were recovered in the project and DR and team may be able to respond to your queries.

Chris,
Thanks for the pics - it's far better to have an idea of the internals beforehand: that grey wadding is especially attractive ... .
Glen - a good point: the leather is still very supple and intact; however, maybe that grey stuffing has shifted - and there is only one way to find out. From 928fixers note, the cross bars shown in the picture may need to 'tie-down' the leather cover as well.
Thanks
