Default I think I broke my speedo

I had it out to replace the odometer and everything seemed to work nicely on the workbench (numbers would move up when I turned the little worm **** by hand) but in the car, the entire thing refuses to work. No speed, no ODO, not even the usual thunk from the reset when I press the button. Actually, the spedometer eventually started working, but horribly short of any realistic speed. Is there a connection I missed when reinstalling it into the cluster? How does the spedometer actually "plug in"?

Flint... I'll assume your '84 euro is like my '84 US
in this regard. You must have removed the
instrument cluster to get the speedo on the bench.

The speedo plugs into pins on the motherboard foil;
the reset solenoid is powered by wires on the m'board.

The cluster has 3 edge connectors, 2 on the bottom
at the ends and a 3rd on the back. With the cluster
in the pod but unbolted you can wiggle/push the edge
connectors to seat them. Skinny arm, it's possible.

G'luck.

Well, quick test drive confirms the spedometer does work, so I didn't screw anything up there (I had already taken out and reinstalled before I posted).

But the odometer STILL doesn't work, after I put in the damn replacement wheel that supposed to fix it! And at great effort, I might add as the online instructions from the company were actually incorrect (a supposed pin to remove a wheel was not present).

Ah well, got the blue LED's I got for Christmas installed--looks nifty too!

Where'd you get the dash LED kit from?

It was one of the Jager ones. Only problem is that it makes the rest of the old yellow-white lights in the car look really old by comparison. I'm going to have to find matching LED's for all the other spots next.

Occurred to me a link would be nice. I stayed away from those trim rings and overlays, however, gives a cleaner look, I think.

Did you get it from rennbay? If so, those instructions were for a 1987 S4.
