Default Intermountain 928s UNITE! upcoming events in Utah- UPDATED W/ PICS

Here's the latest news:
The Intermountain Region pca will be holding their first autocross of the season at the Davis County Fairgrounds on March 6. I am planning to participate and invite you all to do the same, or at least come to watch. To participate, be sure to arrive before 9:00am for tech inspection, sign-up and to walk the course. A Snell-rated helmet is required but if you don't have one loaner helmets will be available on site. Cost is $15.00 to participate. If you plan to watch, arrive between 10:00 and 1:00. More information can be found here: http://vista.pca.org/int/

Need directions? Send me an email and I'll forward them to you: markosmundson@msn.com

Our next club gathering is planned for Saturday 3/12 at Liberty Park. Plan to arrive at 11:00 on the 7th East side of the park. Enter the park from 1300 S. and proceed to the shark pool (that's a figure of speech, not a real place). After the usual meet & greet we'll make a run up to Park City for lunch at Red Rock at the Redstone shopping center in Kimball Junction.

If we have an inordinate number of folks who can't attend on the 12th, we'll reschedule. Also, Andy and I would love to hear your suggestions for either scenic or spirited drives we can take in the future; the Park City thing is fun, but variety is the spice of life!! Finally, as was the case in January, if your Porsche is unavailable, drive whatever is available!! You can either hitch a ride to lunch if you are up for an adventure, run up the hill with us in the family mini-van or just show up to commiserate.

Dave Lomas (Ketchmi) has offered to put a dyno day together for us so please let me know if you are interested. We'll schedule the dyno day @ Dr. Gas for a future date based on your responses. There will be a cost associated with the testing, but Dave assures me it will be reasonable, especially if we have a pretty good group in attendance.

Finally, the last two bits of business: I'll be sending an email with the updated roster, as we've gotten several new members. If anyone on Rennlist wants to be included int he club, please let me know so I can add you to the list. Also, if anyone has a catchy nickname for our club, we're open to suggestions. I'll compile the list of responses and we can all vote to determine a favorite.

Thanks, I hope to see everyone on the 12th.

So far we've got one "maybe" plus me for the auto-x, and a total of three affirmatives for 3/12 including Andy and me.

I'm pretty sure I can make the 12th.

When the weather warms up, a drive over Mirror Lake up to Evanston, WY and back is a nice drive. Or you can do lunch in Evanston and then make a loop out of it by driving back through Woodruff and Huntsville to Ogden.

You can do the drive around the west side of Utah Lake. Or go to Tooele, then down through Faust and Vernon and back through Santaquin to I-15.

Most of the gorgeous drives will need to wait until snow clears up high. If you ever want to do an overnight, weekend thing, I've got a route in southern Utah that will knock your socks off. It's where God drives.

Don't forget the horse races, or our lonely club member Ernie who lives there.

BTW, I may now have to pass on 3/12. I forgot that I'm out of town two days during the week (golfing @ Coral Canyon), so that combined w/ the 3/6 autocross means I'll be staying close to home for a few more weeks.

UPDATE:

The 3/6 auto-x was a blast. It was a tight course I didn't think would be good for the 928, but I was wrong. My times were only 5 sec behind the fastest runners (51.02 was my best vs. their 46.0 times): a 911 race car and a brand new Lotus Elise. You all missed an eclectic bunch of cars- my 928, the Lotus and 911 racer, 3 914s, a 993 Turbo, a Boxster, several 911SCs, another 993, a BMW M3, a BMW 635i, a late '60s pumped up Mustang fastback, and a brand new GT3 that did not race. The tight course provided for some great power slides, and what amounted to trail braking, although I rarely touched the brakes: let of the gas and the back end would swing around rather nicely.

Re: 3/12- I've only heard from a few folks here and by email. I'll send a reminder and see what additional response I get. Thus far bigs, John/Lars, Andy, Florian, and Daniel are attending.

Have fun all, the weather should be a bit better than the last get together......

I will be doing what the 928 is made for, eating up some highway miles. (Gotta' wear out the snows before I put the 18"ers on.) Plus there are a couple of mountain passes on the way.

Mark, bring some fresh batteries and take some pics!

Andy, don't just sit there and shift your new shifter, actually start the car and drive it around.

Bigs, try to keep everyone at least in sight (in your rearview!)
