I was wondering, too, if the AT might be considered a better choice in terms of performance for turbo and perhaps SC cars, as with the AT shift you don't have as deep an RPM drop, and you keep your foot on the gas, keeping the WOT switch closed, only getting some timing retard during the shift instead. Of course, this ignores the thrust bearing issue with later ATs, but I think that can be addressed during a TT rebuild that most 928s will need soon if not now.

Ferris and 928ntslow, thanks for the information. Now I know what speed not to shift down and ruin my transmission.

When I bought my first mountain bike with click shift, I thought it was for wussies. Until I rode it. Being able to ****** three gears in an instant in a tough technical section became so addictive that nobody makes manually adjusted shifters anymore. Same with formula one in motor sport. The reason I liked to shift moutain bikes manually is not because it was better, but because I am good at it and I love the feel of a well performed shift. That is why all my cars have a stick. My truck is an automatic. Why? Because my last truck was a 5 speed, and it was killing the clutch to back up the rig with a trailer in tow. Having seen the '86 928 auto track car in Excellence, I'm SURE I would love an auto. In LA I would have to have one. In upstate NY, this dinosaur still has a stick in his shark. But not because it's better. Now, how about that ride?

I've ALWAYS shifted an A/T manually. In fact, I don't think I know how to keep it in D!!! After more than 150,000 miles of this, the A/T is still going fine.

The only thing is, I wish the downshifting response was faster at higher speeds...and you can't really throw it in 1st gear as you enter a turn

Tarek...K I C K D O W N B Y - P A S S!

This will tell the tranny to immediately shift ...quicker than stomping on the throttle, no real lag time. It is a great mod for around town, but is worth it's weight in gold on the freeway. Makes an OB auto look like it's packing some serious ponies under the hood.

Cruisin at 60 and stomp the momentary switch and the car springs into form! Serious smile factor! In the twisties, pull down a gear while braking into the turn, as you throttle through and out, hit that momentary switch and hang on!

Get both!!! I feel your pain, and that's why i got one of each!!! It all depends on what you find, what type of driving you will be doing, and whether your married and want to get your wife involved..as I said in another post.. my wife drives the hell out of the auto ( 118max speed on the gps) but has yet to sit in the drivers seat of the 5 speed., Ed M
