Yes David ,Jeff and I often are standing in someones's driveway examining the car working a deal while in the background we hear the telephone ringing .....there is a lot of interest in 440 Cudas, Big block Vettes especially when the asking price is a bit below the market !

I see your points and agree that initially I was a bit concerned since the car had not sold for almost a year. I was on the edge initially. Most of this was because my Father-in-Law was having Cancer surgery and although I did not want to miss out on this one it was tough to coordinate this with my wife who is 50% of the team. I was convinced but she was involved and I could not make it a priority over her fathers health. Thank Goodness my Father-in-law is doing better and once that was resolved my wife looked at the car and gave me her full blessing to pay up to his asking price which was thousands more than we had initially agreed.

However, I had a clear and understood conversation with the man. He agreed to sell me the car.I was as he said "the first to make him an offer". I offered to send him a signed agreement and a check that day. He told me he was out sick from work and would work on the paperwork that day. He promissed to email it to me so I can send him a deposit. Instead of sending the paperwork he sells the car out from under me.

My lack of proximity to the car may have been a disadvantage but if he was trully the upstanding person he claimed to be he would have honored our agreement or at least informed me immediately instead of accepting my offer and then backing out without being man enough to give me a fighting chance. To me a man is only as good as his word and in my opinion his word is ****. I am sorry if anyone disagresees with using names but to me his actions are inexcusable. I wouldn't post this if there was any confusion or misunderstanding involved. We had an agreement it was not like I was waiting on hold in the background.

I have owned and sold Porsches for over 20 years and never has this type of thing occurred. I myself had someone confront me with cash $1000 more than I agreed to sell a car to another person for and I did the honerable thing and sold the car as agreed. To me honerable is honerable and the rest is just BS.

In the end it is his loss because he could have gotten more from me. I was planning on restoring the car and was only interested because of the color.

Now am I mistaken but my research states that only 4 US Iris Blue GTS were imported? How could so many be available if this is the case?

I guess I just need a place to vent. And I appreciate the responses. However, this to me was like being the man with the bag of money, first in line and having the seller walk past me and pick a person at random.

There was one at DEVEK for many months just sitting there... We are all not bad guys, and if you really want one, keep looking, you'll find one...

Regards,
I believe this car was the car at Devek. Problem is Black, red, White or silver are all out of the question. That doesn't leave me with many options when looking into GTS's

Yeah.......but did you learn anything?

FWIW, I might have given you a call before I turned the car over to the first guy with cash, but I also would have told you that first-up-best-dressed was my intention in the first place. Allowing as we haven't heard the other guy's side of the story, maybe, to him, you were not that clear on your intentions.....since you want to try this in the public court, you need to conform to the rules of evidence.....

So you need a place to vent......ok you vented....now take the good advice you have gotten here and become an expert in buying the next car you get the hots for. Remember, to be binding, any agreement over $500 has to be in writing.......Best option has already been suggested.....CASH on the barrelhead.

Hi Scott,
How the heck are you? Good I hope!

This reminds me of a funny story when I went to Boston from Atlanta to get a Black/Black 5-speed GTS that I wanted. I flew up with $20k cash in each boot (ziplock baggies:-) Only made me an inch or so taller, but it sure felt weird. The GTS had a new factory replacement engine which would not have been to bad, but upon my inspection I saw they used an auto stamped engine instead of a 5-speed stamped engine. (which is the norm with replacements) . It turned me off to the car and I flew back with "squishy feet" :-)

LOL I will have to remember that one. I did learn a lot.

What gets my goat is that we had an agreement. I offered to send him a check Fedex and a signed agreement. Instead of a BS excuse like I am home sick I will send you the agreement just sign it and return it with a check. He could have stood up and said I have another buyer, I need to get back to you or sorry I have a better deal etc. If you agree to something you should at a minimum give the other party the courtesy of letting them know what has transpired.

Wink Iris Blue GTS's

If you want one that badly, just get one with an interior colour you like, and respray it.. If you want it factory Iris Blue, then wait it out.. If you wish, you can also import one from Germany.. I have been offered several cars in the past year from europe in Iris Blue. I also want one, but have placed all my car projects at a lower priority at the moment due to work related time constraints...

As you are a check writer, if you really GOT TO HAVE IT, and have cash handy, there are Iris blue GTS's out there if you got to have it that way from the factory... And no, you do not have to pay $50k for one..

There have been several 2-3 I believe 1992 GTS's imported into the USA from Germany.. It's not that much of a pain, and the 93-95's are similar..

Of course it all depends on your priorities.

When I bought my car from its previous owner, I got a tip it was available at a great price, called the guy, hopped a plane, checkbook in hand, and was prepared to buy it on the spot.. I agree with your honourable thing etc.. However, everyone is not that way... If you want it, get there, and pay on the spot.. If not, chances are you will not get what you want to buy..

Those guys who mentioned going around with a wad of $$$ know what I'm talking about.. I'm honourable when selling, when buying, it's open season.. If I want it, my checkbook is in my pocket, and the only question is how much to write on the check... Nothing else...

You have vented, but in the end you lost this GTS.... If you want one, and have cash in hand, and are planning to restore the car anyway, then just keep looking.... I posted info on at least 3 cars I passed on in the past few months on this board.. I saw that IB GTS at Devek, and passed on it a few years ago at $41K... It sat outside for a long time at DEVEK, and had a DEVEK exhaust which swapped back to stock with Susan's car...

I also passed on an Iris Blue GTS in Germany with a broken rear window for about $16k, a yellow, and a black Strosek as I did not have the time to deal with going to Europe, and importing the car into the USA... I am not however worried that I will not be able to own an Iris Blue GTS Automatic car... It is a question of when it becomes a priority enough for me to make the time, and write the check... I still need to finish my supercharger system, and build that darned race car... In addition to the 9 million other things on my list.... One at a time... I have had enough cars to last me several lifetimes, so it's not a priority...

Anyway, Just keep looking... I've vented too..

Here's a link to all the colors and a snapshot of Iris Blue (which on a GTS is actually Iris Blue Pearl Clearcoat):

I once did a deal and got a full purchase price check from the buyer. He stopped payment on the check and disappeared. Cost me $10 for the overdraft and pissed me off. He caused me to miss several bird-in-the-hand cash deals while I waited for the check to clear.

While it would have been "nicer" for the seller to call you and let you know he had a local offer, that could have been taken by you as a suspicious attempt to twist your arm. Ideally he should have just said, the first cash-in-my-hand deal takes it, as that is ultimately what happened and really should be the way all deals are done to be in the best interest of both parties. It was a mistake for him to say or imply you had a deal before he got real money from you, if that is what he said, but he was well within his rights to execute another deal at that point he did.

Cobalt,
Sorry to hear the deal fell through. It would have been nice to have you in the family but keep looking and you will find it eventually.

Blau928.

I do know what you are talking about. I spent several trips back in 1984 traveling around Europe with $170,000 DM in my pocket. Bought many nice Porsches including a strange 928 and a beautiful 911 which I kept for 19 years. I understand what cash in hand is all about. That year I helped import many Porsches so many I dare not say. Yet not once was an agreement broken without the courtesy of being notified.

I did a color change on a car before, Never again. If I can find the color I want I would change out the interior though.

Bill Ball,

I agree, all I wanted was a heads up or a chance to counter by accepting his terms or allow me to walk from the deal. I was so shocked to hear that he had sold the car without any notice. 24 hours ago he was sending me his terms to sign so I can return it with a deposit. I could have wire transferred the funds if that was easier. What gives. At least notify me that the deal was dead. Instead he just left me hanging. That just pisses me off.

Big Dave,

The cut is still open, too much salt. Nice pictures though.

Iceman,

I saw the pics of that car. I love the Midnight blue but it is not for me, the stereo and other small issues concern me. I will hold out in hope that some day that warf928 will sell me CarChick's ride. Yeah like thats going to happen.

Unfortunately, I need something for this summer so it looks like I may be buying the 993 targa my wife has been eyeing. I sold her on the 928 because she as I fell in love with Iris blue on the 928. Although stranger things have happened. Only time will tell.

I appreciate everything guys, I needed the time to cool down, bad day in general. The government canceled an order this morning that I have been working on for months, was going to ship today, so now I am out a bundle. Don't care so much about the money. Wouldn't have cared about the car. I never get my hopes up until a comitment is made, it seemed clear to me this was a done deal, obviously that wasn't the case.

If anyone comes across an Iris Blue GTS for sale, drop me a line I would appreciate knowing.

thanks
