Victor:
That first one you noted from Northern looks like it should get to the lift points. I just measured, and the outer edges are 57" apart. Perfect, I would think. And you could put locator pins (bolts) to make it more secure.
Roger:
I will look at the Kwiklift pictures too. Thanks for mentioning the wheels off option.

Bill,
Have you thought of taking donations by the other 928 owners in the area who may consider renting out time? I know of a certain 928 owner (who shall remain nameless...) who would love to EASILY get under their car to install a belly pan.

Bill - I have been SERIOUSLY considering a lift for some time. I came VERY close to getting a 2-poster, but realized that not only did I have the ceiling constraints for the posts, the garage door opening stuff GREATLY cut down on the height I could lift, anyway.
I have dne a lot of research. At 9'11" - this is the shortest 2-post I have found.

I was about to order the scissor lift from Harbor - but i think I'd have more versatility and cheaper $$ by getting two of the air operated lifts.
(Someone mentioned our cars' balance - I currently have her on jack stands for my myriad of projects, I had to reposition one...long story short - the car will balance perfectly with just 2 jack stands on opposite corners!! You could tilt her one way or the other with just finger pressure!)

I've often found that one or two jackstands are not making full contact and the car rocks rather nicely. Three seems to be enough.

These guys will custom build a 2 post clear-floor lift to any height you want for a good price (midway down page on left):

Clear-floor lifts are so much nicer than the floor plate versions.

Oh, and I suppose I have to be concerned about the slab with a 2-poster more than a 4-poster or scissor.
Hmm...another alterative to the scissor that has open access, lifts on the frame. Not sure how high.

I was also curious how stupid this idea is: rather than a lift, why not dig a deep trench in the floor that you drive over. You keep it covered when not in use. I don't really have any idea how much it would cost to have someone dig the hole and lay out the forms and rebar, and pour the cement... Mark

Those "pits" were outlawed a couple, (maybe 3) decades ago. The problem with them is that CO is heavier than air and settles in them.................

Gretch OK so how does Jiffy lube "get away" with having "pits" actually it is a basement ! but with large open holes in the first floor ?? go figure. So maybe you need to build a basement under the garage ?
