Carl Pires thank you for the nice comments about us at 928 International I also would agree that "the 928 out perfoms in many different aspects. " as you stated. However as I recall your first several months of ownership and experience $$ with a different repair shop and your own efforts at getting your 928 to run correctly the car did NOT run correctly until it was FIXED by Greg Brown. I am also aware that you took your car and PAID the bill by check. Then when you phoned and attempted to negotiate the bill Greg simply told you to forget it and JUST GO AWAY and tore up your check. So it is good that your car runs well and as a bonus you got it fixed for FREE.

Ahem,

Sell the Corvette, get 2 928's.. An auto for everyday, and a 5spd for the track (week ends)... While you're at it, why not get a stroker say 6.5 Liter 5spd to enliven your aural capacity for merriment...

After you drive a properly kept up 18yr old 928, you will have a different perspective on a 10 yr old Corvette..

No pun intended....

I'm sure someone in SOCAL will give you a ride on the freeway and a few canyons.. If you were up in my area, I'd offer...

Good Luck,

Good luck,

Paying a little extra for a well maintained car will always be cheaper, unless you can wrench. These cars can run on years of neglect and wax up well. Having been to a number of mechanics in my area I can say a good mechanic is cheaper at twice the price, and I mean someone who Knows these cars. A bad one never has time to fix it right the first time, and always has time to do it again. Mileage isn't always as important as service history and overall condition. Take your time, buy a good one and you will be very happy. Don't be seduced by a pretty body and a throaty exaust

The cost of ownership is directly related to the quality of the 928 you purchase.
If you get an old one, or an abused one, or a cheap one, it will probably need
repairs. The older ones almost always have some kind of gremlins, etc...
So if you want it running perfectly, expect to pay to get it up to snuf.
Once you do, the actual maintanance is not bad at all...
It's often cheaper in the long run, to look for a nice '91,
rather than looking for a great deal on an '86. More than likely,
the '86 will need work, and will just *look* nice, with a nice coat of wax, etc...
What you want, is a car that was very well maintained, and not abused.

Price is too high. Although the mileage is low(I don't think that's good, but the market does), there are plenty of them around to shop for a while. I would expect to pay about $10-12k for this model depending on options and condition.

On the other hand, it's right there in your back yard which is a plus. Offer $11k, and just wait. The car isn't going anywhere quick. He'll call you back in a few weeks with a counter offer. Get a PPI as recommended above. Turn your own wrenches.

I did read a lot about 928`s recently but wanted to hear opinions on how reliable tese cars are and what to expect from them.
There`s a lot of rumours on how expensive the maintenance could get and such. I`d like to know how`s cost of maintenance in comparison with the Vette if anyone here owns both or used to own one.
Presently own a `96 vette and intend to keep it for week-ends and get the 928 for every day driving.
Just love the 928`s and intend to get the one mentioned above if the owner calls me back and get to test drive it.
Any tips on what to look for? please guys put me on guard on what to look for.
Thanx
928s4fever did nothing wrong. He just wanted a few opinions

What Carl Pires did is not an opinion. It is called slander "he will over charge and get you for all he can". Carl is the type of person who pays you and then says this on a public forum? For a business this can be very damaging.

I am sorry Carl you had a bad experience with Precision Motorwerks. We all know Greg Brown is not the cheapest Porsche repair shop, but if you want the best and if you want the job to be done correctly go see Greg! Personally have Greg rebuild all my racing and street motors (few GTSs, few S4 and few 6.5L race motors), all of my motors been perfect. I sure if you compare Greg's shop rate to PEPBOYS Greg's shop rate is high but if you compare it to all other Porsche repair shop is not too far off.

If you want the best go see Greg!

On a side note: I am not sure my information is correct, I was told you stop payment on your check?

Pappy, I was alluding to cspires. Not the first time recently someone has posted for the first time to throw sh*tballs at someone. Too bad, and not what the list is for, imo.

Carl Pires, You must have some huge _ _ll's or you are just plain inept!!!
I unfortunately have first hand knowledge of this experience that you had with Greg Brown...being that I am the one that referred you to him.

To set the record strait, I had been building my motor over at 928 Intl. in the evenings and spoke to you on several ocasions when you would drop by to ask ?s and barrow parts (yes, BARROW)to try and fix your newly acquired 928. You told all of us that you had spent allot of $$$ at some shops and the car still didn't run rite. So Mark, Jim, and myself all tried to help you out but couldn't so I referred you to Greg....because he is, the best. I even told you that he was not cheap but well worth the money. Greg fixed your car and when you picked up your car you asked if he would take a check, he did, and you drove your car away.
Then you call him and tell him you think you were over charged and have put a stop payment on the check. WTF This was pre-meditated IMOP to get the car back, as we all know about a mechanics lien. After a couple of phone calls with you trying to barter the price down, Greg rips the check up and tells you to go F--- Yourself.

I would have never aired this dirty laundry...but for you to come here and make slanderous remarks about Greg Brown or Precision Motorworks is just HANIOUS.

Will this guy have the "nards" to respond? He kind of blasted out of the chute with his comments, then faded away. It's actually kind of amusing for me, I can't even find an expensive BAD mechanic close by...

Oh well, it's the weekend, the sun's out and there's ground to be covered.

1981 shark....... It is always the BAD mechanics who are the most expensive no matter how little the hourly labor rate I often get telephone calls from shops from "professional mechanics" where they ask questions that are just plain scarey .... but at least those who call guys realized that they did not know and call for help. There has been more than one engine pulled out of the car and heads removed for a "bad headgasket" when the actual problem was the heat exchanger for the oil leaked in the radiator. Several 16 valve engines have had valve jobs done because they were "sure" it had bent valves because 944s always do. A lot of transmissions. drive tubes, rear suspension have been removed just to install a clutch. There are obviously some well trained knowledgeable honest Porsche repair techs who take pride in what they do. When you find one it is often best to try to maintain the relationship.
