Powder coated flats!! Black chrome-
David Gagne at Teknicote had the urge to do up a set of S4 flats in black chrome after he saw how that color looked on a previous set. A friend of mine is probably going to buy these and put them on his silver '85 euro. New life for flats.
My opinion: Cooooool, baby!!!
last pic: a color chart; so many colors available.

What was the specific prep process? Were they polished prior to coating? I have black chrome intake runners and plenum and the car is meteor metallic so these might look good on it. It would cost me less than new cups.

There are lots of steps in the cleaning and prep. You can call him at 401-724-2230 x222.
Those wheels were faded stock S4 flats. They came off my '89 originally. I think he has to rough up the surface anyway no matter what.

Powdercoating is a process that adheres statically charged particles of a plastic particulate and a hardening compound to metallic parts. Once the powdered plastic is "stuck" to the part it is melted (cured) onto the surface at 450 degrees for 20-40 minutes. (depending on the powder) Check out www.columbiacoatings.com for procedures and more.
As for cleaning, same as Jim said above, except a good solvent bath is nice to have after the part is blasted. Proper masking and thickness of application takes practice, and the stuff is very hard to remove if you mess up. The powder is cheap, and the system (with an air source) is about $80 for the novice coater.
I did everything you see here (minus the body of the car) in powder.. every nut, bolt, and part not in raw aluminum. I'm very happy with the durability and finish, and plan to do a set of phone dials in bright white soon.
Calipers too.. and the coating has held up to several track events!!
Feel free to ask for a write up.. if you are really interested... I'd be happy to do a step by step.

Perry,
I second Hoyo's comments. I have been a fan of your work and your concepts of maintaining your car for a good while now. I love what you did with your 951. A 928 done using your "style" would be awesome.
