Default SHARKTOBERFEST 05...(Already!?!?!)

Yea, I know, some of you are still recovering from SF04...us too!

Anyway, the reason for this Poll/thread is to start planning for this years event and let me tell you, it takes a bit of time to put something of this caliber together.

Since we started SHARKTOBERFEST, we have strived to make it an original and want to keep it fresh from year to year. So far, our efforts seem to have paid off.

We are in the idea "tire kicking" stages to see in what direction we should go this year.

One idea that came up was a track event. Not the kind that might immediately come to mind, but something different and for all aspects of 928 driving.

The idea was to have 3 driving events in 1.

DDE (Daily Driver Education)
For the average 928 owner (which is the vast majority of us) we thought about a DDE session that would educate owners on how to actually drive their 928's. Everything from proper seat adjustment to moderate speed avoidances. I would say that most folks just aren't aware of what their 928 is capable of and how to max their driving experince from the daily commute, to the weekend spirited runs. Braking, shifting, steering, etc. A classroom type session followed by a driving session...possible obstacle course. Session would be taught by pro's.

ROAD COURSE
This would be for the racers and wannabe's. How cool would it be to have Mark Anderson giving instruction on how to concur this aspect of the 928? This would include a classroom session and driving afterwards....nuff said

DRAG RACING
Wouldn't it be righteous to see who has the fastest 928 out there? 1/4 mile strip, staged and bracketed. An instructor to show how to manipulate your 928 for faster hole shots and key shifting techniques for auto and manual. Classroom session and then to the strip.

Now of course this would all be at one track and NOT on the street. We have no idea where we would do this as this is only an idea for a days event. The logistics could be a nightmare, but we are willing to look at it. We just want to get some kind of feedback as to whether it is something worth pursuing. This is more of an instructional day with a lot of fun to be had rather than race day and drive your car til it blows up....though this would be optional on the drag strip

At the same time, this could very well be a great spectator event if attendees did not want to participate in any of the previous.

We know all had a great time last year and loved the day at 928 Int'l and the dinner and the socializing and the Petersen and the....everything else. This is only one possible aspect of the weekend.

Help us with this poll so we can accomodate you as the attendee. Even you folks around the country and that aren't in the US, give us your thoughts.

YOU CAN VOTE FOR MORE THAN ONE ITEM. Pick all that you would like, this will help us in other aspects of this event.

Thank you!

A track day sounds excellent. Big for that one.

I voted, for all but the last two. It ALL sounds good. Don't get me wrong -- the museum trip was VERY cool, and I felt it was a HUGE honor to have one of the 4 928s on display inside the museum. But.... the driving events really got my attention. I think it would be much more dynamic, a much more visceral event. Fresh, too.

The socializing, dinner and 928 Int'l tech sessions and gathering were what I thought made Sharktoberfest special. I think a track day would be a great idea (might I suggest El Toro) as the fun drive got a little unwieldy considering the number of cars that participated. It was a little difficult to keep everyone together at times, although I really did enjoy the drive. Looking forward to Sharktoberfest '05 and a record number of attendees!

I agree with Bill. Even tho I missed the fun drive because I went to Joe's to install my new rear interior panels & RMB. I wouldn't miss a day at the track even if my hair was on fire. Keith & everyone involved in putting Sharktoberfest together last year did an awesome job. Looking forward to Sharktoberfest 05.

C'ya there!

I have no interest in racing. I love camaraderie and tech sessions and fun drives ..... and I will be there.

Talking 05 Sharktoberfest

I'll be coming from Texas. I don't know if I'll be flying at 30,000 ft or flying low, if I can find some other DFW 928 owners to caravan (hint hint)

Would there be any 928s available for the events for rent or use for those of us from the East coast? It'd take me 2-3 days to drive there with the wife, too long there and back so we'd have to fly.

Keith,
Have you considered a dyno day/half day? The one you and I and Jim went to that day is only about 5 minutes form 928 International. Would be a good way for people to get a performance diagnosis of their cars, lots of fun, and convenient location.
