The truth about octane boosters
Does anyone know it? I was reading some octane booster labels today and was surprised to see that one point of octane boost is equal to .1 octane rating!
If I am interpreting that correctly, a 10 point boost (which I thought would turn 93 octane into 103 octane), will actually turn 93 octane into 94 octane. Is my math wrong ?

Probably the best over-the-counter is Toluene by the gallon. Check at your local paint store. When I'm running dangerously-advanced timing with the Geozuki this works great keeping detonation in check and acting as an octane booster. Usually dilute 9/1 or 10/1 with 92+ octane.
Here's a good reference article - http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/toluene.html.
Haven't tried it in the Porsche but since most gasoline has a high percentage of Toluene anyway it shouldn't cause any problems. Please add comments if you've had other experience using this.

"...toluene was used extensively in the turbo era in the 1980s by all the Formula 1 teams. The 1.5 liter turbocharged engines ran as much as 5 bars of boost (73 psi) in qualifying and 4 bars (59 psi) in the actual race. Power output exceeded 1500bhp, which translates into 1000bhp/liter."

Here in CA our gas SUCKS!!!! especially in winter it is supposedly 91 oct. but with enough additives (water, alcohol, goat ****...you get my drift :-) that I have used Toluene in my S/C'ed 928 and all I can say is WOW it works.
Yes, it is bad for you so don't drink it or get it on your hands.
Yes, the Gov. watches the use of it in any large volume (ie...5-50 gal drums) due to its use in drug manufacturing.(so I have been told)
Yes, it is expensive by the gallon but when I asked to buy 5 gallons I got the look.
I use one gallon of it to mix with a full tank of gas.

OK Rob now I am begining to understand your behaviour......."Pathophysiology: Acute intoxication from inhalation primarily affects the CNS, causing euphoria, dizziness, confusion, CNS depression, headache, vertigo, hallucinations, seizures, ataxia, tinnitus, optic neuropathy, peripheral neuropathy, stupor, and coma.
Toluene also may have direct negative effects on cardiac automaticity and conduction and may sensitize the myocardium to circulating catecholamines. Sudden death secondary to cardiac arrhythmias has been reported. Pulmonary effects include bronchospasm, asphyxia, and aspiration pneumonitis.
Long-term toluene exposure or abuse is devastating, affecting the CNS, GI system, liver, kidneys, skeletal muscle, blood, and skin. Chronic CNS sequelae include neuropsychosis, cerebral cortex atrophy, cerebellar degeneration and ataxia, optic and peripheral neuropathies, decreased cognitive ability, blindness, and deafness".............. basically the active ingredient sought out for "glue sniffing",bagging, Huffing and this is JUST the vapors !! Skin contact has additinal issues...

USE EXTREME CAUTION!
If you shoose to use this stuff.....I have , be sure to use nitrile gloves and some respitatory protection. It will immediately eat right through latex gloves.
A dyno operator/tuner once told me that 2 of his friends that had used this stuff the most both died of cancer.
It used to be an addative in gasoline. I believe it was out-lawed in CA and is one of the reasons 93 is not available in CA.
