Default Invitation, R & R Motor Mounts & Oil Sump Gasket Party, Central Virginia

I could sure use a hand. The 94 GTS needs motor mounts and as long as I'm in there, the oil pan gasket should be changed. I've got the Anchor mounts and a new pan gasket. We could possibly get two cars done in one day!

Got plenty of high lift jack-stands, floor jack, creeper and cold beer for afterward, etc.

Just need some help. Problem is it's tax season and I get one day off per week (if that) and it's usually Sunday. If I could get a couple of bodies (and hopefully someone who's done the motor mount thing before) It can be done.

I am thinking Sunday Feb 20 or 27, maybe March sometime. Who cares. I only drive the car every once in a while now, but want to get this done this winter.

Any volunteers?

If I didn't live so far away I would be glad to help. Maybe you should change your Rennlist name to Mary or Jennifer. It seems like Beth has more help than she can handle for her timing belt party.

LOL

We Bay area folks love to get together & help each other out. We had a ton of folks come to help with Heinrich's TB, and he wasn't even offering tri-tips & sausage!

I don't know my schedule yet for those dates. If I'm available I'll join you. If the weather gets nice again, hopefully I'll be able to bring my shark (still need to order a WP and finish the TB job). I have mounts, a pan gasket, and a GTS baffle ready to go.

Hey Bill - I need to do all of that to my S4 as well. Although we don't necessarily have to do my car that day, if nothing else I would love to give you an extra set of hands so I can see how it is done. The 27th works best for me - let me know if that works for you.

Hmmm... assist in the R&R of motor mounts and pan gasket on a 94 GTS.... would a test drive be included post-wrenching, pre-brewskis? I could make it down for a day on a Sunday with enough notice on the right weekend. Haven't seen the belly of a GTS up close and personal yet.

BTW... what kind of beer we talking about? lol

Bill..........I recently just finished R&R my motor mounts; went with the Anchor mounts following John Pirtles excellent service advice on his web site. If you can get a compressor and air tools the job is not to bad; your mounts are probably original hence all the associated X-member bolts will 'tight' from the factory.

The biggest struggle is re-positioning the X-member back in place and getting all the bolts started. Leave everything loose until you get the upper bolts installed that way you can move/pry the X-member around aligning the bolt holes. I also removed the sway bar for extra room.

Your a little far away for reality help but can provide virtual assistance.

Malcolm: Thanks for the info. I've got the air compressor and air tools. Would be great for you to join us, but it might be a long drive.

Matt, Bill and Mike: Thanks for replying. Let me see which day works best and get back to you, hopefully this weekend. I think a pre-brewski test drive would be in order. Nice country roads around here. The brewski is whatever you want. Lots to choose from around here.

Mike, Gotta love it!

Won't travel for just any 'ol beer,

Bill;
Let me know what date you pick, maybe Troy and I will cruise down from PA to set you southern boys straight. Besides, I got a new 85 5 spd I've been itching to beat on. Make for a good roadtrip.

You got it Doc... wrenching these beasts requires a certain minimum beer style beverage. Some jobs require high end stuff like scotch and tequila...

and I see you're rotating 928 inventory... lol selling a few here... picking up fresh ones there... 85 5 spd. Cool. That levels the playing field a bit... BRP anyone?

If you make it down to set us southern boys straight, give me a heads up on your flight plan and I'll intercept you enroute.

Hell, if I'm free, I might just have to take a trip up North. The GT needs to stretch it's legs a little anyway.

No kidding? You haven't peeled the paint off that beast yet? A road trip is exactly what you need. Ticker feeling pretty good, I hope? Road trip will make it feel better. Especially since he's talking 928 wrenching and beer at the other end. Argh, argh, argh... Get Mohr and Falkenberg in the mix and you never know what'll happen.

I have overnite space if needed about an hour North in Warrenton. Beer provided if you work on my stuff. lmao

Thanks for the response guys. All it takes to get a great response is to mention "wrenching a 928" and "beer" (or any other cold adult beverage). Sounds like I'll have to roast up some brats and sausages too. Gotta get more propane for the grill.

As for overnight accomodations, bring a sleeping bag, I've got floor space. Just think of it as camping!.

Let me figure out the correct weekend for this accomplishment and let you all know.

Just got the Benz back from the shop for some a/c work. Wasn't expensive at all. I'd like to see a heads up run with the Benz 500E and the 928 GTS. Seems like the Benz is almost as quick and fast as the 928 GTS, probably because it's got better gearing. Shouldn't have trouble finding someone to drive one of them.
