Doc,
What does e-bay have to do with my statement? And how does the cost of parts not designed/tested for the 928 relate to the cost of parts designed/tested for the 928?
Thanks,
Andy K

will the shroud limit cooling on the highway at cruising speeds or above?

Each fan pulls approx 1710 cfm. We can configure for push also. Wriing kits are available from Jegs or Summitt. OR, you can use the two relays, two fuse packs and trip the relays fromt eh water temp switch in the radiator, and or AC "on" circuit.

Spal make all different load fans.....If you can buy" these" fans for $85 on Ebay, I will sell you the shroud for $265!

No, based on the unrestricted area of this package vs stock S4, it should coold better.

How does this setup come out of the car? I hate the stock setup on the S4, in the sense that it causes IMHO a major time dump on removing it, and even then it comes out very hard. For this, do you have to wiggle? Do you have to remove the cooler lines? Lastly: If fitted to the front, does it have a better fit than from the puller location?

Default Since we are coming "out of the closet"

We have also been developing a fan system. It uses two Perma-cool high performance 14" fans pulling 2950cfm each, has an adjustable thermostat installed along with a circuit breaker. The motors for the fans are easily replaceable instead of replacing the whole fan. It is a plug and play system that only needs +12v and a ground for wiring connections. (already set up with the installed wiring harness) It uses an adapter plate for S4 useage and will have a custom aluminum top plate with possibly carbon fiber intake scoops. (working on that right now!) Complete systems are available for $449 for pre S4 and $499 for S4 applications which includes a K&N filter for the air pump and the bottom adapter plate. It is a drop in, remove in probably less than 5 minutes type system. It will not work with centrifical superchargers but should be fine with roots type.

We have been testing the first prototype on my car for almost a year with fantastic results. We have installed a couple more on local 928's with similar results. I removed the front Aux fan on my car as it no longer seems to have any effect. An adjustable speed fan controller will be an option considering when these fans come on, they almost pull the car through the air.

So, what do you think?

Dave: Wow! I'm wondering, though, about the effect of not having a shroud tightly around the blade tips (more or less built into the Spals) that you might get a lot of scattered turbulence inside the fan box. It's just a question, as I know NOTHING about fan shroud design. Proof is in the testing! Those are some honkin' fans. And I do appreciate the accomodation for air intake mods.

BIG kudos to you and the Marc for investing so much obvious thought and effort into designing and building these products. I'm sure I'm going to need one of these soon!

I think...DAMN! that's beefy. should help 'pull' the car along if they're running at full speed. What is the current draw, compared to the stock S4 setup? Wonder what it sounds like when they both run full speed? Jet engine?

Dave,

Looks very nice. I remember speaking with you about it a while back.... I bought a couple of Perma Cools myself, and will try to mount them as pushers with a different AC condenser. My Rad is too thick, and I need the space behind it for the oil cooler lines etc., and easy access to the front of the motor for adjustments etc..

Looks Sharp...!

The fans draw about 8 amps each and the circuit breakers are rated at 30 amps. The factory spec on the fans state 10 amps but they measure less. I can't say that they are that quiet, but we were not going for quiet, just cool. I have heard many new cars that sound about as loud when it's hot out and the fans are pulling max. It is noticeably louder than the S4 factory system but then again, it's pulling almost double the air. I'm sure that we lose some efficiency with the fans staggered and overlapping a little but I would still think that they flow over 5000cfm combined.

No problems encountered running 140mph through the desert with two large driving suited and helmet'd idiots with the A/C running full tilt, even on the long starting line wait. I don't know if they helped my top speed any considering I have never topped my car out yet, maybe if I ducted them out the nose and created an afterburner?

Afterburner!! hahahahaha, that's a good one. does your throttle quadrant have a 'zone 1-5' on it? hahhahaa.

The current draw is pretty cheap for the size and shape of the blades. Total draw under 20 amps is probably okay. The alternator is rated for somewhere around 80 amps at 5000RPM.

I like a cool car, but I also like a quiet one. I can barely hear my fans when the AC is on and they are at full pull. So far, I haven't had a problem with overheat, but I haven't fully stressed it in humid, hot, slow, AC on conditions. The shape of the blades plays a large part in the sound produced. It's hard to get lots of CFM and low DB too......

How much does each cooling fan set-up with shroud weigh? I have a single Spal fan on my twinscrewed 928 that fits inside the original shroud and cools the car sufficiently enough that the aux fan up front isn't needed.

I have seen Daves' fan up close last Sept. and it is a rather nice kit, and if I didn't already have a working solution, I would have bought the one he showed us at the track.

Which reminds me.... Dave what about those driving lights? My fog/driving lights are still dead, and I haven't yet found the issue with my regular headlights!

Keep the innovations coming!!

I don't know if it's fair to compare to the price of a USED fan on ebay.

weighs under 10 lbs. This is a ducted fan setup similar to the originatl 928 setup ... the draw is similar to stock.

Doc - should have bought it .. darn good deal!

Dave, sign up for flight school yet?
