I'm a smoker who will not smoke in my car... for this exact reason. I went through hell with my girlfriend, had to put my foot down. I don't mind stopping for a smoke occasionally, gives me a chance to stretch my legs.

Spend a few bucks and take it to a professional detailer. They have wonderful 'stuff' and can usually neutralize smoke odor - they're expert at it - and you'll have the bonus of a spotless interior. You might even check with your local Porsche dealer they already know you and ask if they'll detail it for you. Good luck.

Tim,
Unfortunately, it is not possible to remove the smell of smoke from a vehicle unless the interior 9all that can absord smells) can be removed and replaced.

I have a very sensitive nose adn pick up a smoker on the highway a few cars ahead .. even if their windows are down! I can tell .. You will not be happy, ever.... find another. Sorry.

Shoot, bring it by my place about 1.3 hours after I've eaten some Taco Bell and we'll go for a drive. You won't be troubled by the smell of smoke any more.

Talk to some of the better Detailing Shops - they do this sort of thing for a living; with little foam pads, lying on their backs doing headliners, all seats removed, rugs hand scrubbed, yada, yada, .... no fabreeze like cover - ups, but good results can be had. A friend in the business would charge ~$150 for an interior job; Lake Tahoe --- maybe twice that ....

Thanks Bill... last X-ray a couple years ago, they looked like a non-smoker's lungs according to the doc. I don't smoke a lot, and have for the most part only smoked natural tobacco products. I'm not trying to say it's a healthy thing to do even so, but the worst stuff in cigs is put there by the tobacco company!

I would make the detailing of the interior to remove odors part of the deal with the seller. Let him/her clean up their own mess. Sharkskin, I'm on my way over with Orios and milk!

I've dealt with this too. My experience is that it's too big a deal to remove everything including carpets. One thing that surprised the daylights out of me was the amount of ash everywhere. The nicotene was easy to wash off and in that regard, the smell washed off easily. Carpets were treated repeatedly with Febreze which killed the smoke smell in them permanently. Same with rest of interior after a good soap wash (dry-ish) and rinse (also dry-ish wipe).

I tried an ionizer and it did zero. I also used a heater after using the febreze and that made a big difference.

BUT

You really need to get under the rear and front seats, into the cracks, under the rear quarters, under the carpet edges, and wash all vents. I had no HVAC issues since I assume the air blew into the car, not the other way around thank Goodness. I think once I had done all this and removed positively ALL ash, the smell went away 85 - 95%. It's still there a little on warm days but very feint.
