Default 88 S4 on Ebay

Is anyone familiar with this car or the seller? His feedback indicates he has sold 928s in the past.

Sean has been selling 928s for a while and is quite knowledgable about the cars. In this particular case I'd want a dyno chart, leak down, AND a compression test.

I noticed he has another one on ebay, Its low mileage but looks a little rough around the edges, maybe down the middle. There are a lot of S4s out there.

I bet the paint on the nose is trashed, at the very least at the edges of the bra. Otherwise, why display it that way?

Looks like a decent example........with a nice interior. Like others have said it looks to have a few opportunities though.....

Bras are *very* bad for cars.......I can almost bet the paint under the bra is a different shade than the rest of the car....

There seems to be a lot of suspect oil/grease splats all over the engine.
The crossbar bar looks to be slightly bowed......could just be the picture or due to some front/side collision damage......I can see the VIN tag on the drivers fender and hood.....but not the passengers side.
Also, is that two snakes under the hood.....or are there two bungee cords running from the crossbar to the front supports??

As always......be careful out there.

Those hold the Bra on tight!

I would say the intake manifold was layed in a greasy pill of parts while the top end was being rebuilt.

About a year ago, there was a rather extensive discussion(s) concerning resellers or brokers in general and some individuals in particular. You may want to search the archives.

Sean is just a car broker. He hasn't seen the cars in person or anything. He just goes through the trouble of getting them advertized. He called me to sell mine. He just looked at the pictures and said, "I can sell that car for you." Watch out for that. He won''t really know the car, just what the actual seller told him. As always, look for recepits of work done and get a PPI.

SteveG
Thanks for the heads up. I read all the threads on brokers and Sean in particular. All in all he seems like an OK guy just trying to make a living. If I had time to broker Porsches and keep with with my day job, I think I would try it. I buy all kinds anyway, I just hardly ever sell any of them. It takes a lot more time to deal with buyers than sellers, so I would think taking a percentage for selling a car could be a really good deal for the seller. The buyer may pay a bit more sometimes, but if the broker is frank with the seller and keeps the selling price reasonably close to the actual market value, then everybody can win. It sounds like Sean tries to do that. As always, as a buyer, you should have a PPI done before buying any Porsche, unless you are qualified to do it yourself, and even then it's not a very good idea.

A little OT, but I continue to be a little skeptical about all the really low mileage 928s on the market. Does the DME in any of the generations of 928s record hours operated or similar information, like the newer model Porsches? I'm thinking not, since they are all pre 96.

Sean doesn't look at the cars is correct. He brokers them. I have bought more than several cars on e-bay and I will tell you this' at least 9 out of 10 cars listed are misrepresented. I have driven 600 to 2000 miles to look at cars, only to find they barely ran, Had rust, needed major work, and or were just plain misrepresented. I will never again buy a car that hasn't had a prepurchase inspection, or at least been driven by me or a fellow enthusiast. Yeah, you might miss out on a deal, but even titanium power sellers have been known to exaggerate. If the car is good, they will want you to have the inspection. I've gotten a few good cars on the internet, but most of them were not real ''deals''. People know what they have, and they know what its worth. Proceed with caution. Sean is ok, but he's not going to have dinner with you.

Anyone who buys a 928 without a good PPI is just short of crazy...even if you know the owner. He or she may not even be aware that something needs fixing. Protect your relationships...and pocketbook...insist on having a PPI done. It will be at your expense but worth the money
