Default 86.5 Brake Pad removal

Okay, I'm diving in un-chartered waters I've had 2 944T's and 2 928's and the brakes were all the same when changing the pads. My new 86.5 shark has the larger brakes and the pads are kept in place with a different spring.

How do I remove the spring? It's formed like a loop at one end and is split at the other, which end disconnects and how.

Please help!

Damien, sadly removing the spring is the easy part. The difficulties begin if there is corrosion between the stainless steel plates and the aluminum calipers. This makes it impossible to fit new pads without removing the plates and dealing with the corrosion (which can be extremely difficult).
