I am meeting some other 928 owners from 928UK & 928GB at the nurburgring next weekend 12/15th november. I think the is the last time the Ring will be open for "tourists" this year. It is is not far from Cologne, anybody in the area who wants to come along is welcome. We are staying in this hotel
http://www.landgasthof-mueller.de/
Anybody know the best time for a "standard" 928 on the Ring? I think it is circa 8 minutes? The ring is about 14miles long. Last time I was there with a 928 club (see my avatar) I think most 928s were in the 11/12 minute range. I don't think you can do decent times until you learn it and that must take a lot of laps because it is so long with so many different curves. An 8 minute time is around an average of 100 mph which is more than 3rd gear in my manual will reach - to be honest I did not get into 4th gear that often last time![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Also last time it coincided with the "festival of Speed" when all the German auto tuners display their new toys. Consequently there were some very ordinary looking cars travelling at non-ordinary speeds. For example, a friend of mine with a 928 SE was overtaken by a capuccino. I was flat out in 3rd up an uphill windy bit when a big old mercedes station wagon tore past me.
I plan to take some spare cans of oil and my tyre pump. I still have my summer tyres on. Otherwise, I guess not a lot more to do for preparation?

Hi Marton
Are you going to be cruel AGAIN at the 'Ring
, By taking 'Domino'(Martons pet Jack Russel) around loose in the back of the 928 ?
Have a good trip
P.S. I hope you are taking at least 1 roll of duct/racers tape to stop Simon from droning on & on & on....... about how good 'S's & GTS's are

I did 15 laps last Sunday, Oct. 31, a few pics and some video footage can be found at www.touristenfahrer.de - you'll have to dig trough the pages a bit, though, to find the material (don't think deep links work - the video quality sucks big time, btw, McIntosh QuickTime format, no surprise there). Was lucky to have pretty good weather - better bring winter equipment for next weekend...;-)
See you there as of next April or so, if you're up to it.

928 GTS 5 speed, ex Hans-J. Stuck
PS: Second the recommendation of Ben's site. Very enjoyable.

Thanks for the tips and links guys, especially about the duct tape.
Wow, 15 laps.... keeping my fingers crossed about the weather, and taking the snow chains
Hi Dunks, no not taking the dog this time, or the girl friend, they both refused....

PS: 11-12 min. range is somewhat pathetic. Might as well use a bicycle. Forget about 8:xx min. though. 9:30-10:00 min. will be a comfortable and fun pace. But don't drive for time. Try to get a good rhythm going, where you don't have to do anything extreme to make it round. Good luck and enjoy.

I didn't time myself but I remembered some others discussing times.

Maybe Dunks remembers the times, especially his own?

There shouldn't be an oil pressure problem (compression but not so many lateral g's) going through Fuchsröhre if you get the approach right (5th gear flat out going down no problem if you get the right drive out of Aremberg, just shift down into 4th after the compression for the approach to Adenauer Forst). If you're going so fast that there would be an oil pressure problem, chances are you'd lost it at Schwedenkreuz anyway...;-)
