Well.....

im good at getting the window in and out by myself. That P-80 was great Rob.

but.....im having the issue i was afraid of. The trim just doesnt meet the corners like it really should. There is not enough straight trim for the corners to overlap.....or another way of saying it is the corner pieces are too short.

very frustrating.

i did the window and trim both ways....

#1 window in with out trim. My idea here was to be able to position the corners mark the seal and press the trim in where it exactly needs to be. The result of that experiment was that it impossible to press that rear quarter trim on after the window is installed. The issue for me was the brand new seal was too soft and when pushing the trim in there was to much give in the rubber not allowing the barb to seat properly. Perhaps it would work on an older harder seal, for sure not a new one. Id read that others had success this way....not me.

#2 window in with the trim already seated in the seal. Much easier and no issues of it popping out. I had previously marked the seal exactly where the strait pieces need to start/end. Then the corners would go on.

as you can see...i still have a gap on one end and not nearly enough overlap on the other. Of course in order to readjust it each time the window has to come out again. Fun!

this is the same trim that came off the car. The only thing changed was a new seal on either window.

i really wish the trim was 1/4 “ longer. Thats about all i need it to be.

Well that ends this fking task for a few days....

I despise “hangar rash”

i knew i should have just walked away for the day.....just one more attempt right.

so as i look at this trim it appears to be a very thin strip of aluminum that is coated with plastic. Not all metal per say...and not really all plastic.

.

They changed from very stout aluminum to plastic, not sure whether that changeover was in '87 or maybe a little earlier (?) When you order new ones from Porsche you get plastic.

Mine is an early 86. The plastic is delaminating from the Aluminum. Not sure what fix to come up with. I have the correct trim piece, but it barely covers the edge of the to trim pieces. May need to remove and start from scratch with new pieces.

It looks like the seal is missing the rubber that the allows the small plastic gap cap to hook onto it?
