Default 88 s4 Specs?

Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect from an 88 S4?

Not the problems but the HP and handling? One is coming available to me Wed and I will either try to sell her or buy it for myself. I fell in love with the 86 928s that I found for a friend. How much more power will the s4 provide?

you will be extremely pleased with your s4 if running correctly- especially a 5-speed! i have consistently g-tech'd 0-60 in the 5.2 range with minor mods. everyone says the 928 is not a drag racer, talking stock for stock, on the street , tell me what is then? my bro-in-law has a 98 trans-am with the ls-1 and mods, he can't touch me, close (1car) to about 60 then i will pull away hard! i could go on about the vettes and mustangs i've encountered but you get the point. i've never provoked a race and have only lost one (my friend larry's z06) . point is, with these cars everyone wants to race you, and it gets frustrating sometimes.

Assuming the same transmission in both cars the S4's have 316hp 317 tor vs 288 & 302 for the 85-86 + the new intake that makes for a wider torque curve. S4's also have better brakes and suspension, but some later 86.5's had the same (vin 1000+). Still if you liked the 86 you'll love and S4!

yes, but the ott x-pipe is a better choice than the cat by-pass (test-pipe) and add a rising-rate fuel pressure regulator as well. i am still learning about this stuff and everything i've done has been on advice from the more knowledgable guys here, but it works, the numbers don't lie.

Ah, the power of positive thinking .... '88s are pretty much OK!!!!

BTW, if the subject of price comes up, there are many evasive strategies to follow. One example,
I arrived home with a Perazzi Mirage International skeet gun, hand checkered butt on a piece of French walnut so beautiful that it still makes grown men cry: the price was not insignifigant, although only a fraction of its true value. Regrettably, women are slow to grasp such esoteric concepts - and bound to make comments such as " where di'ja get that old gun?"
The correct method is to take the offence ( for you never win at defence), and proudly proclaim, " honey, look what I found at a yard sale .... ". You are welcome to adapt this ....
Good luck with the '88

I chose an '88 rather than an '89 because I didn't want all the trip computer geegaws which seemed like more electrical things to go wrong, plus I don't care for the gauge lettering on the '89+ models. If the car is in reasonably good shape, I think $8k is a great price, even though it will probably need another $8k to be right.
