Andy, how much does your S4 manifold weigh and what SC's does it accomodate? Have you seen the MB SL55AMG...very nice setup!

Marc,
The manifold itself is actually a little lighter than stock. IIRC it's about 12 lbs v/s around 14 for stock. Then the intercooler core assembly weighs around 6 lbs.
The manifolds will fit Autorotor MX420 and 422 or the Jaguar/ Eaton M112. I can make one easily that fits the Whipple (Lysholm) 2300AX.
I haven't seen any detailed pics of the SL55 AMG but IIRC it is similar to the Ford GT. Mine is a lot like the Ford GT.

Andy, sounds interesting. You would know better than anyone how few injectors we might be able to get away with and what might be the best location for them. The big concern in my opinion is an even fuel enrichment to all cylenders.
I keep thinking that simplicity would be ideal (less injectors=better). How does porsche and ferrari setup their injectors on their 600 hp street cars? Do they have two injectors per cylender to keep the air-fuel ratio just right at all times?

Andy, will the port opening fit a S3 head or is it speced for a S4 or both, with the addition of port matching....just cast one manidold?

Marc,
The same manifold fits both S3 (85.86 us 32V) and S4 heads. Although the port shapes on the heads are slightly different, the ports in the manifold are slightly larger than the ports on the heads. The aluminum where the manifold meets the head is 3/16 or 1/8" thick dependin on intercooled or non intercooled. So the net effect is that port's shape is roughly that of the head. It would proably take 30 minutes with an air grinder to get the manifold ports to match perfectly to the head ports. I have never even worried about this at all and all the figures I have posted have been without it.

Andy,
Which head does the manifold fit best? What size intercoolder will fit? I may be in the area soon to deliver an engine ... maybe we can meet and discuss.

I think it will fit the S4 head best. as the ports on the s4 heads are more round.
I am only maknig the big intercooler now 10x4.90x3.5.
Let me know when you are coming to town and we can get together.

Is anyone running a refrigerated intercooler on their shark? Water injection?

Here's a link to refrigerated intercoolers:

If anyone has information on how they did theirs with their SC shark, please share.

Yes I believe Blown Beast has a refrigerated intercooler. And there is a Turbo system in Idaho that is running water injection.

Warren, I have installed a three gallon stainless tank were the stock washer bottle once was located. Inside the tank is a rear A/C evaporator and a expansion valve that is controlled by a switch in the car. When I have the A/C on driving around town, the water is being refrigerated and circulated through the air/water intercooler. If I want to play....I just turn off the A/C and now I have three gallons of ice cold water to pump through the intercooler. This set-up works really well and I see ambient air temps (in the manifold) after driving for a while around town or pretty quick if I am on the freeway. The only problem I have found is that on the track it is hard to keep the car from overheating due to the A/C running the whole time on track.....but works great for street. This system was a brain storm idea that turned out to be ALLOT of work but glad I did it.

Ive seen the set up Rob has and it gets VERY cold. He put a lot of work into it.

It is also good for keeping a beer cold as well if you set the bottle on the tank!

Rob,

What a great accomplishment! I like your plans for the A/C running into a water tank for cooling purposes. Could I PM you for mor details?

Do you have any ideas to beat the heat factor on the track? Would a custom build radiator that could handle the heat dissipation requirements fit into the spot for the stock 928 radiator?

Warren you need to see Rob's car in living colour to appreciate the developments he has made in fender flaring as well as the incredible engine mods.

Marc,
When do you think you'll be coming to Atlanta? I'll set aside some time.

Andy
