Kevin,

They may have wired the hood alarm on a common circuit with the interior lights on the Temp switch, instead of using another hood switch as an input for the alarm...

Just that the hood should be on a separate circuit, and it seems to me that the most likely place for someone to meddle would be trying to tie everything into the alarm. You still have another (maybe)separate issue with the fan staying on. Perhaps it's not a separate issue at all and the alarm, in trying to sense ground, is sending +12V to the fans... I'm not going to say rip the alarm out; it may be worth setting up correctly if it's a decent unit. But definitely examine all of its insidious little tendrils...

i am ordering a new air temp switch and then i will carefully remove alarm system in that it is a 10 years+ old system that no longer functions properly.
