Default water in fuse box/floorboard FIX

I have heard again and again of this fix but never saw pics till recent
I took some better pics today and thought I'd post them for others like me who don't get this

Thanks to JP for letting me hijack his earlier post, Carl THANKS FOR YOUR PIC EARLIER!!

here we go
Pic 1 shows the location of the drain flap, I removed the filter top to reach it on the car with engine
Pic 2 shows how it flips up, they seem kind of flimsy, see note below
Note this one is CLOGGED, as evidenced by all the debris
on the Queen I flipped it open, pulled out what I could with my fingers, then stuck the shop vac up in it to get the rest... followed by a bucket of water and Voila!!
while resetting the flap it fell off due to dry rot,,, NO MORE PROBLEM NOW

Where does that drain from - the roof gutters?

best I can tell, all the water that comes down the windshield is funneled to the channel under the wiper motor cover
it slants downward from drivers side to pass side and out this hole in the engine compartment
here in NC, and most of the east coast, we have leaf issues (no comments on our other issues please)
the leaves go down, clog the flap and backs into the passenger floorboard by the fuse panel

Nice pix Rixter! BTW, that flap does serve a purpose... it's to keep engine bay air from getting into the HVAC inlet. Not enough to cause a problem per se, but enough that you will "smell" fluid leaks a lot sooner.

good to know Dave, I'll swap the good one over... don't need any extra roadkill smell in the car
but I can wash it now without worry,
I originally thought this was a windshield seal issue, but never saw where it was coming into the car, seems it has been clogged for a while, I have some cleanup to do in the floorboard
and I can bet it has been the cause of some of my intermittent electrical issues

Great picture. I just went out and found mine and pulled a few leaves out of it. It must have clogged at some point in the cars history as I noticed some of the bolts above the fuse panel are rusted!

Maybe it's just that time of year.... but I keep hearing myself say "might be a good time to refresh the fuse panel".

That flap shouldn't cause leaking into the fusebox/footwell. Worst case it should fill the area under the wiper motor with water but that would have to be some serious cloggage ....

Most common leakage into footwell is from sunroof drains that are clogged, second from leaky windshield.

I had a SMALL leak that was none of the above but rather a hole punched into the firewall where someone ran the infamous "second alarm" wire. Second alarms and different sound systems are frequent culprits in 928 electrical problems.

The area at the base of the windshield is a wet well (like most convertibles have where the top drops down into) The only drain is the rubber flap as shown. It is quite common for the level of the water to get too high and it pours into the heater blower ducting and falls on the fuse panel. The sunroof drains ,two tubes go down the windshield pillar and two down the 1/4 behind the doors. Rarely does the windshield leak since it is glued in place.
