Andy,

Under what conditions were you able to get the pressure down to 20psi?

Brian,
Did you cut the inlet tubing elbow as I suggested? I f so then you won't have to pry the SC off again if you wnat to switch to the 85-85 FPR. Taking SC off and on should only take maybe 1 hr or so right? You won't have to do the manifold.

No worries, as I said I'm getting better at it. I did cut the inlet elbow, but I'm pretty sure I can't get to the FPR. Before, I accidently pulled off the vacuum line to it, and needed a pair of extended needle nose pliers to get it back on. I can't imagine getting line wrenches, etc. in there, much less getting the part out and the new one in. But you're right, it should only be a couple hour job start to finish. And every time I do this, I get a little less intimidated about the whole process.

Brian,
Soon people will be hiring you to do installs for them

I got the pressure down to 20 using a regulator other than porsche.

The 85-86 cars are at around 30 at idle with the BEGI 2025

HTH,
Andy

The lowest Fp i can get is 40psi period. Thats with the screw on the RRFPR out, in my hand and both adjustments on the BEGI backed all the way out.

The only way i can see you gettin lower is a weak pump or dirty filter??? I dunno??

Ive got a set of 24#s on the bench that i will try next week when i go through things as a "check up"

good info there Rob and Tom. thanks

One of the reasons i spent the extra time remote mounting my RRFPR next to the BEGI! Makes adjustemts a snap! Pull the fuel pressure gauge from Carls 3 pod and i can see the pressure as i mess with it all.

Couldn't this be due to the other regulator you are using though? Maybe it will not adjust below 40?

Since you are going to install new injectors I have a mod so that you won't have to go through the old process of installing the injectors. I'll detail it in a PM for you. Not complicated and takes maybe 30min.

If any of you guys are interested in coming to Boise, ID for the weekend and help tune a turbo. Room and Board, beers, pizza, are on me. As I sit here and read the knowledge that is posted in this thread, I see that there is a lot of work that can been done on my '82. I am also having, a rich under boost issue that i cant figure out.... Future thread.

With the 30# injectors, and the 85-86 FPR ($25 used from 928 Int) on the 87 S4 the fuel pressure is exactly 30PSI at idle with the engine warm regardless of the setting of the BEGI 2025.
The same car, 222,190mi original engine, S4 running 8.5psi for 6kmi, also passed GA smog test today on chassis dyno....with flying colors.

my 86.5 with new 24lbs injectors and begi 2025 does about 29-30psi of fuel @ idle. The rest of the fuel system is stock.

I found that even at 40 psi, as low as i could get, i would get a slight hesitation under a quick, steady "off boost" acceleration.

Im sure it could be somehting else "a muck" but adding 5 psi gets rid of it.
