Has anyone dealt with Wilhoit Enterprises in Springfield, MO. Seems they have quite a few low mileage 928s. Their prices look pretty high compared to Black Book, but their cars do appear to be really nice examples.
Any advice on primary items to check, beyond the normal PPI. I'm looking for S4 , GT, or maybe even GTS.

check his history, buys for $35k, details it, puts it back on ebay 6 weeks later for $40k
find one he's bidding on and outbid him, detail it yourself
save $5k

I really agree with Chuck, no chance one can say such a thing without proof. But I also agree, the uncanny ability of some specific dealers/individuals to find and offer for sale low-mile cars, does catch me by surprise sometimes. I know (as you ALL know) just how rare a 20-year-old Porsche with 40 thousand miles is. I don't presume to accuse anyone of anything until I have a reason to believe something like that.
Personally, I think a car with low miles (ie under 80k) will DEFINITELY, UNDOUBTEDLY, POSITIVELY, CERTAINLY show it in its interior, engine, paint and general condition. It ain't rocket science.

Keeping track of GTSs like I do, I can tell you that many of the cars Willhoit has sold, he will end up selling them again. He currently has a 95 GTS auto for sale that he sold once before. I saw this particular car about 5 years ago when it was for sale at Champion in FL with 8,000 miles on the odo. The red 94 GTS he has came from a guy in PA who used to own the 89 GT that I once owned, I know the miles are right on this car too. When I last heard about this GTS, it had 14k miles and we're talking 3-4 years ago. The 93 GTS he has now, was originally owned by a guy in Chicago before the seller Willhoit bought it from moved it to FL. The miles are probably real on this car too based on the history I am aware of as it relates to the mileage. Most of the 928s he sells are not new to me, in other words I have come across them before and know a bit about their history. He does have a skill of finding really low mileage 928s.
Like it or not, he does keep 928 GTS values high.

I know of two owners who have purchased their sharks from Wilhoit with no problems. Happy with the cars. Probably paid to much (IMHO) but that's their business. On the other hand, when I was looking last summer I inquiered about two different cars at different times. Each time I pressed about the "mechanical condition" of these cars I got conflicting info. Nobody stuck to the same story. First it had this many miles and equipment and then it had different miles and equipment. The usual "Yeah, but it's got a great stereo and wheels" routine. Not trying to cast shadows here just my own experience. Take what I say with a grain of salt. Do your homework and you might just get a good deal from Wilhoit. Overall I understand they have a decent reputation in the business. Side note: Chuck is right, I have seen the same cars being sold there a second time also.

I outbid Wilhoit on my '88 with 48k miles on Ebay. It was my first shark (3 months ago) and before I learned very much from the 928 community on Rennlist and the Owner's Club.

He cant keep his prices high forever. He is in biz to make money. The longer they sit the longer his money is tied up. He has to have room to budge from his asking price, especially if he has been sitting on them for a while.

I can't figure you guys? You bitch that your cars don't hold their value and in the next breath complain if somebody is asking more than you think its worth. I say if somebody gets good money for their car, good for them, and if somebody dumps a car for a lowball price, bad for us.
Look at the money being forked out for 911's. I mean, common on, its an overpriced Karman Gia. Whoops!!! Must be the wine?

IMHO I think there is a ligitimate ceiling price for these cars based on year, condition and mileage. If you pay more than that high/low base line that's your business. And I agree, if someone can make a profit from the sale because the buyer didn't do the homework or was in a hurry, then more power to them. In the used car business (all makes and models) there is no shortage of stupidity, never will be. I never bought a 928 with the thought of "making money on the deal". I could think of a hundred other cars to do that with. It's the uniqueness of the animal that's appealing to me. Who gives a rats *** what you paid for your car as long as you can afford it and enjoy it.
