Default Anyone used Portia's Pods?

Just took the pod out of the 79 today. Several things to do. The usaul-new bulbs, new illumination (possibley Jager Red) etc. ON the todo list is replace the pod itself. Has anyone used Portia's pod service?

Wanted to see what the verdict was on quality and any pics are appreciated.

Gracias!!!

I haven't installed one of his pods, but I have had other dealings with Dan. I found him to be very easy to deal with, very knowledgable and helpful about the cars, and generally a perfectionist when it comes to 928s. You should see the shop he just built to work on them! He has a sweet looking convertable under wraps in one of the garages.

I mean no malice, but honestly, I tried to contact him some time ago when I wanted to repair my pod, and numerous emails/calls/whatever were never returned. I concluded several things, none of which were ever confirmed. I also went on to deal with someone else (Just Dashes) and that was a disaster. I wish I had done my own pod in 20/20 hindsight, but I also needed a new dash. Now I must re-dye the pod which was not the right color. I gave up on Portia's Pods. Maybe you will be more fortunate than I was and he will respond.

Hi Chuck,
Great minds think alike!
I ordered a pod from Dan yesterday for the S4.
So far so good - quick responses to emails - price is reasonable ($150+ship).
I paid $600 for my last pod (leather).
I will let you know when it arrives and you can come over and see it.

BE VERY CAREFUL when dealing with pods and dashes. Dan is a very nice man and he has a good reputation. Just Dashes has a good reputation. Many have been made very happy by both. But I've also seen re-done dashes and pods that have made their owners very unhappy.

My advice is, don't buy something before you've seen the work. There was a poster who posted about 3 or 6 months ago about how to refurbish your pod properly. That procedure seemed to be a good one.

Dan did my pod. Great job and perfect color match. The process does take a while. You may want to pick up a pod to send in to be rebuildt while keeping the present one in your car so you can drive it.

Roger,

I will talk to you today partner!

Harpo, Thanks for the feedback. I have an extra pod I can send in, it's pretty much toast. The one I'm taking out is in pretty good condition except for a chunk out from where the ignition is and scrape marks from the steering wheel. (which you can't really see until the wheel is off)
What's his turnaround time? BTW, how was the grain and color, did it look pretty much stock?

Ron, Marc, Heinrch, thanks as well!

Chuck
Dan doesn't really appear to do the pods as a money making business-- rather as a service to fellow enthusiasts. As such his schedule is "flexible" and he builds a group to be done and then takes them through the process together. IRRC mine took 2-3 months (which wasn't a problem since I was gutting the car interior to bare metal and starting over.) I sent him a very badly split black pod to be rebuilt and changed to a brown color to match the new interior. The color match is perfect and the grain appears to be stock. I did send him an interior piece with the pod for color matching. I would 100% recommend Dan's work unless you can find a new condition pod.

Sounds great Harpo,

I'm going to hook up with Roger Tyson here in DFW land when he gets his in. Ironically, we were disassebling pods on our cars at the same time and did not know it. I just need a black one so hopefully he can turn it faster than 2-3 months. Thanks again for you feedback.

BTW, any pics???
