I suspect as far as Porsche USA is concerned all 89-91 928s are S4s and were recorded as such in their data base. In order for them to differentiate the GTs from the rest someone would have to search the option codes for all 89s and the transmission codes for the 90s and 91s.

A couple of other interesting notes. Sometime in 1984 PCNA was established and took over sales from VW of America, so data for 1985 is probably a bit suspect.
The data showed that for 1988 through 1990 that about 20%-40% of global production had a 4.6L engine. I discounted this and reported the total global production. Does anyone have info on this? Anyone heard of a smaller engine during those years?

Thanks Andrew,
Very interesting information.
AFAIK '96 model year 928's do not exist. All '96 first registrations were old '95 stock.
Last 4.7L engine was made during summer of '86. There is information in some Bosch databases about 5.0L engine only coming in '89 for example. Both of these infos are obviously wrong.
If GTS gearbox info is correct it means much larger percentage of US GTS were 5sp than in ROW production. Registry data also gives some indications of this. There's no way ROW 5sp GTS production is anywhere near 50%. It's probably not even 25%.
World production numbers are mostly same what Ludvigsen gives.
Very interesting information.

Do we have an update on this?? Like how many GT's were imported into the US broken down by year??
I've searched, by all that comes up are older threads like this one.
