I don't have a picture, but looking at the front end lines of that 928-wagon...it kinda looks like a Cayenne to me?
Note that this was done in 1984 - 20 years ago when NO car had projection lights and long before anyone even thought about an SUV boom.
This was a birtday present for Ferry Porsche, and a technology concept car. It was the first with the later S4 front and rear bumpers and lights, the first with a 4-valve engine, the first with projection lights. Obviously, the latter did not make it into production.
Maybe more people felt like Justin?
BTW: The front fenders of the 968 come very close to the ones on the 928-4. I guess that one must be ugly as hell also...
Sorry, but I like the 928 the way it is. Certain designs work; others are overworked. The 928 works. If you want to "update" a classic, be ready to approach the baroque. Look at an egg. Can you do a better job? Good luck. The 928 works the way it is, as the Parthenon works the way it is , and the Ise Shrine works the way it is, and a pearl works the way it is, ...... Maybe that perceived need to be trendy (need for greed?) which Porsche has seemed to have adopted is why they have yet to equal the aesthetics of the 993/968 with the 996 and now the 997, which is returning to the 993 forms, but not as pleasingly. Maybe some people just want to be mundane and reactionary and seek change for change's sake.
But then what do I know? To each his own. Whatever floats your boat.
You took the words right out of my mouth, except that I would have put 'HOLY CRAP' on the front of it. That car is hideous.

No, not even close since I think the 968 headlights look closer to the 993's. On the other hand, I think the big glass on the rear of the 968 is ugly though.

If you want a rendition of the 928 with recessed headlights, try to catch a rerun of last nights episode of "Rides" on the TDC channel. Ford was building the clay mockup and non working model of the Shelby GR1. Except for the fender flairs, headlights and lateral rounding of the front bumper, this could have been an early 928. The back end looked like a cross between a 73 Maverick and an AMC Marlin. BTW didn't the first 928 prototype have a flattened rearend?
there was a post from south africa where a kit is being produced for the 928 with 996 style headlamps. the pictures of that car (in yellow) show how the fender lines were raised to accomodate the more steeply raked headlamp assembly.
personaly i think it is too difficult to improve upon the stock setup aestheticaly given the very shallow curvature across the cars front but i do like the direction porken has taken with his headlamps. id like to have a go with that myself sometime.

Dennis, Saw the show. That Shelby model was gorgeous. I agree that it has quite a lot of similarities with the 928.
thats kind of what i was thinking of, but they got to be larger. can you make the light housings larger in size. (the interior light and that turn signal is close to the look of the C6)
not bad, i had to do a double take on the pic to make sure it was the same car!

I think the first pic is better than the second (more 996 looking) I like the look.
Ive always been a HUGE fan of our cars traditional looks, but the new lights, if done right could make the old 928s look pretty close to the new proposed 928.
heck, all we need are those lights and i think the old 928 looks better!

Im not going to let you drink it alone. When your car is ready again, lets go racing and have that drink (s).
how about double or nothing with you driving Ron's car at laguna POC!!
(its only fair!!)
Still cant belive i couldnt run 2:30 at RA. the Speed WC touring cars ive been gauging my times by, i though must be running quite a bit faster this seaon, however, at laguna, they ran race times within .5 seconds of my race times at Speed GT Laguna. those same cars were running 2:28s at RA !!!!!! that is so xxxxxxx fast! (for 300hp ish , Bmws running on 235 toyo RA1s!)
sure the whole group of PCA guys were about 2-3 seconds slower than the previous year probably due to the heat and humidit, but who knows!!!??
after all that, i owe you the bet and have retired from being the race bookie.
(Ill still make predictions though)
