Default Rear Shoulder Belt

With two children ages 5 & 9, the 928 back seats are the right size. The issue I have is safety. Does anyone has any pointers on how to add shoulder belts? or does someone have a model that has them so they can explain how they are installed. Thanks

Do a search on the forum, this has been gone over numerous times. To conclude, yes it is possible and fairly easy to do.

Run your hand up the underside of the rear pillar, you will find a depression where the rear fixing point is hidden.

They were standard from MY 88 onwards. Don't know, if the earlier cars have the drillings for the upper bolts on the c pillar.

Nicole, my 83 Euro has the drillings in the D pillar (IIRC, in the trade the rear most pillar is always D, irrespective of whether or not there is a B or C present, but I may be wrong), I think all did. And the child seat fixing threads behind the rear seat backs.

Atari,

Tried to do this in my 79 and it could not be done. The rear pillars accept the bolt, etc., but in the very early cars, the retractor recess (below and outboard) is smaller than the later model cars. The retractors are 2 different sizes. Now, I do know for a fact that the 87's have the same size retractor as the 88's and up (I Sold the 3 points to a guy in Cal. who did the conversion since I could not) but I'm not sure your 86 or 84 will accept the later retractor. You will have to pull them out and compare. Every car from 78 up has the provision in the aft piller though. On the earlier models, as JP points out, they were for child seat anchors. Pull them apart and let us all know what you find out.

Good luck!!!

As an aside, I decided to rehab one of my rear lap belts because it wouldn't retract all the way. Just remove it.........then take off the plastic cover over the retractor spring.......and........BOING! Holy-Moley! It now rests uncoiled and forlorn in a zip-lock bag.

I've beed down this route my self. The bigger retractors WILL barely fit in the opening in the early cars, but the holes do not line up, so you need to manufacture some sort of bracket, to get them boltet to the car. You will also need new receivers, since they are different for the lap belts.

(Some of?) the early cars sold in Australia had 3p rear belts, they were non retracting, however.
I've been trying to track down a set of these original early style 3p rear belts for some time now, no luck so far, but I do now that they exisist, sins I've been it touch with Aussies that have them. They are shown in PET.

There is at least one company in AU that remanufatcures them, but they do not ship overseas, so no luck for me so far....

I may go down the s4 route and get fixing brackets made....

MM , do you want some help with these belts? They will be the same ones I bought to get mine inspected and approved on return to Oz last year. I got them at the factory outlet in Nth Melbourne area. DO you know colour and length (2 sizes IIRC)? Check the web site for colours etc and let me know. Drop me a pm.

That's crazy! You could have injured yourself badly!

NEVER EVER try to fix a broken seat belt mechanism! It's not worth the risk - the cost for these is not that high.
