I've been chased out of the garage all week. Even with the heater on and using a creeper, it's been too damn cold under the car. I've got to get a fan that circulates warm air down to the floor.

After having been to the "Garage-Mahal" I've seriously been thinking about putting a gas heater in the garage... Only $189 for 30k BTUs.... Then I need the insulation for the garage doors, carpet, banana tree, poster of naked women... A screw it, maybe I'll just move.

Sometimes you gotta take a step back and "bench repair." Pull out the catalogs and the manuals, fire up the web, and figure out what you're gonna do and how cheaply it can be done. You're not gonna drive it in this weather, are you?

We're planning on moving soon, and I've made it a condition of the move (if it involves a long commute for me) that we have a 3 car garage outfitted exactly the way I want it....heat, good lighting, painted floor...and a LIFT. Hell, I may be out near you Andrew within a year.

C'mon down/over. One thing you find when working on your 928 (obligitaor 928 content to keep in forum) in this neighborhood, is that most new homes have tiny garages. We have a 3-car garage, but it's really only suited for 2 cars. I can barely get my minivan in and close the door. Now as you know I've been thinking about/ making moves to getting an VW old-bug convertible. I'm a bit concerned about getting it, the 928 and the wife's car in the garage. (I guess the lawnmower can stay out).

If you do new construction, see if the builder can increase the width or depth. You'll be thankful for it.
And don't forget to put in a utility tub and running water - I wish I had that in the garage.

We were looking at places over the weekend that had pretty large garages. The prices sucked, though. $450K for 3,000 sq ft and an hour commute each way. Next, please!

Sounds like you might consider just finding the land and building it to suite your needs$.

I guess with the (dare I mention it) global warming, Seattle has had very wonderful weather, compared to previous years and also compared to the rest of the US. Last and this year we've actually had a bit of sun most weeks, as compared to the '80's when we didn't see sun all year and had feet of rain. .... I am NOT a fan of cold, and hate working in it. My garage is a one-car, but has room in front of the car, which helps a lot. I have two cars under my carport, and one under a cover, and the trucks ..... well they have to sleep out in the weather.

No way, I would never drive my car in this weather. I don't even want to be outside. It is an instant freeze out right now.

The funny thing is that my 86 diesel jetta started up in this weather, it was plugged in but still that is pretty good for that old car.

Big Dave try $600,000 for 1,500 sq ft of 50 year old house, 2 car garage........but it is a couple miles to the beach ! and we did have the A/C running in the office yesterday............. And just think I could have stayed in Northern Indiana where I was raised. Some 29 years ago I loaded up a U haul truck left Indiana flat towing an Oldsmobile in an ice storm only to arrive in Santa Monica, Ca where the first two weeks of January it was sunshine and nearly 70 degrees.........I never went back. I always figured it was an accident of nature that I was born in Indiana not a conscious decision on my part. So I corrected that error !!
