Designing and creating is fun and challenging . Managing production, shipping ,sales is time consuming work. Now that he finally has the stroker short block in hand I think he has better things to do with his time.....
I hope I'm not stepping on Louis's toes here, as he has been more than helpful to me at all times, but if he is truly not making them anymore, a cheap alternative (with welding needed - quite a bit) is the cross over at summit racing.
Speaking of OT: Paul, was it you that bought that black-on-cancan sunroofless S4 a few years bacK? I was looking at that car and was sooooo tempted .....
Yes, that was me. I bought it from the original owner who special ordered it from the factory, and he kept it in a climate controlled environment the entire time he owned it. Lucky for me, and unfortunate for you, that you did not acquire the car when/if you had the chance as it's in excellent condition with all the paperwork showing the dealership where he bought it from did all the work. Most of it was battery related with notes from the mechanic to 'Drive the car'!
I drove down to see it, made an offer, drove back home(..quickly!) and got the cash, turned around and drove back again with a friend to drive it home. Total elapsed time was about 6 hours; it is prudent most times to pounce at an obvious, golden opportunity!
Ken,
If you mean the outlet pipe spacing, it is 4" to 4.25". It's the same as the dual cat outlet pipe spacing. You need about 4.25" spacing if you are going to use the 4" diameter Random Technology cats to give a little space between the cats. Someone mentioned about iusing a dual in/out muffler in place of the X pipe. Whiole I suppose it would fit in the alloted space, it won't have the extraction properties of the X pipe or properly designed merge collector. Tom Cloutier is making the X pipes (tomasc@pacbell.net) and David Lomas (ketchmi@exolo.com) was working with Dr. Gas to make one too. I haven't heard from Dave recently to know how he's progressing with that effort.

Can anyone tell me what the center to center measurement is on the Ott pipe?

Dr. Gas seems to be real busy and keeps putting me back a week at a time. They think they can get another 10 hp & '#'s out of it (I don't think so........) so we are going to do a side by side dyno test before we offer it to the public. Expected date is now around Christmas give or take a week. We will be offering it with and without cats. We are also using Louie's cat back design in a true mandrel bent 2.5" and it will be dyno tested as well. Price is undetermined as of yet but it shouldn't be too bad. More to come!
VT928, is that all of their dual in dual out mufflers, or just a certain model?
I spoke to the Magnaflow Tech about the "X" mufflers VT928 mentioned.
Only certain models are quoted to be true "X" in configuaration, and of the absorption type. With 2.25" tubes (x4), 14" body,& length @ 20", # 14385 stainless, or #11385 aluminized would seem to be suitable.
As I have a spare gutted cat to play with ( X-pipe opportunity?), this would be close to a 'cut & paste' if the cat were cut just ahead of the 'H' crossover - then attached to GT resonators and muffler - plus sort out an O2 sensor well. ( don't like the idea of sampling one bank only) - how to capture both banks , back to the drawing board ...
(Curtis), it appears to me that nobody is willing to come forth and pull heinrich from the depths of despair with an Ott x-pipe, so I think the topic went two directions:
1. Talking about heinrichs resemblance to his avatar because he couldn't remember who he sold his x-pipe too (lol)
2. Discussing potential "X" solutions via Dr. Gas and Magnaflow.
Garth,
I've done a lot of dyno testing between 2.25" and 2.5" pipe size. On a 32 valve engine, the 2.25" pipe size will cost torque at all engine speeds. I have a comparison between 2.25"/3" and 2.5"/3.5" single pipe system on my web site at http://www.performance928.com/cgi-bi...ss_parent=1125
I also have dyno comparison between 2.25" and 2.5" front section alone and the difference was even more. It was about 10 hp difference on the top if I recall correctly. I should put that up on the web site too.
Don't worry much about having the O2 sensor only sample one side. Remember that at above about 80% throttle opening, the LH is in open loop and the O2 sensor isn't being used. Having the O2 sensor in the hotter & faster moving, exhaust stream of one side close to the manifold makes the sensor operate more quickly and have a better (faster) response at idle and part throttle as compared to the relatively dead flow in the center of the H cross pipe as in the stock cat setup. Unless you have a severely unbalanced fuel injector set, I doubt you'd see any difference.
