How low on air does the tire have to get before the sensor triggers the warning light on the dash? Also, I noticed that the tire pressure increased from the cold pressure I set to the hot pressure when I checked it after arriving home. Increased about 5lbs.Should pressure be set cold or hot?

For modern tires pressure RDK is 'asking' is too high, meaning above what's good for wear pattern. Think for your model year they should be front 36 psi and rear 44 psi in 20 celsius. For every 10 celsius (18 F) pressure increased about 1.5 psi.

Tire pressure is generally checked cold. I had the same problem on my '93. Interestingly, the tire pressure warning light started to come on when the weather got colder. Don't know if it was a temperature issue or simply a coincidence of things getting older and less reliable. It was interesting how delicate the sensor mechanism turned out to be. The "culprit" was always one of the front tires. I pumped 'em up to 39-40 psi and the warning lights went off. At 38 psi, they went back on again. Since I won't be driving a lot over the winter, I'm not worried too much about tire wear. And it'll give me time to ponder if I just want to disconnect them. I'll probably wait to see how they perform once the weather warms up again.

Man, I thought 36 and 44 psi was high. I have been running 32 ish and am showing no odd tire wear. I dont drive it real hard though. I came out of my girlfriends house last weekend and my drivers side rear was really low. No one messed with it. (neighbor was in his driveway whole time). I had to have driven it there that way. No warning light at all. I put air in it using the electric pump and drove home. Had to be low enough to trigger the sensor. I guess they have quit working. Thanks for info

I don't recall what psi triggers the front, but the warnings came on my rears around 38 psi. If I bump them around 40 or 41, the warnings are gone. Although tire guages vary too, my guage may read +- 2psi compared to yours. Basically, I try to keep my rears around 41 psi to keep the warning system happy.

WSM gives reading of "2.5 Bar for front trigger, 3.0 Bar for rear". In 1993 it changed to 2.5 Bar on all four wheels. Three bar is back is a lot. Some tires like that pressure some don't. Depends on the compound and construction details.
To jumper the RDK, short pins 5 to 13 on the control unit. Check pressure cold always.
