Default who did you use for Auto Transport?

I'm looking for a shark mover! I need it transported from St. Louis, MO. to New Orleans, LA. I'm sure that some of you have done this before? or have a brother-in-law who has.

Is it not driveable? That's a pretty short trip down the river.

If you do transport it, I highly recommend enclosed transport. When you do open, you can't tell if any damage has occured to the car because when they come off they are way too dirty!

Why not just drive it? That's a 8-10 hr drive max! Prolly fun too.

I rented a uHaul trailer (towed behind pickup). 7 hours from Rochester down to Philladelphia, about 8 back. It was actually a fun way to spend a day.

The uHaul was about $60
Gas was nearly $100.

But hey, (in my case) resurrecting a dead 928 is a priceless opportunity.

I did an open-trailer from Florida to LAX. I was very pleased with the company I used, and would use them again. It took less than 2 weeks IIRC. It cost in the $900 range.

Contact the guys over here for more info: http://www.mbpostal.com/
No, MB Postal doesn't do the shipping, but I think they get commision for referrals and they're GREAT people.

I have used Intercity twice (enclosed both times) and received a good price and good service both times.

Don't be afraid of using a open trailer. I have used both and I cringe every time I watch the driver squeeze into the car in an enclosed trailer to get it out. Don't forget that it might have to come on and off a few times on the trip. The open transport is easier to get on and off and usually costs a lot less.

You are pretty brave to buy it sight unseen. I would recommend going there buying it and driving it back... It's great bonding time for you and the new Shark, trust me or ask Red UFO...

Inter City, Waggoneers, Sierra Mountain Express.. IC does a bit of custom enclosed, while Wag and SME haul for the manufacturers. I have used all 3 at some time or another for various cars... I have never had any problems with open transports. When using open haulers, I have always asked for top load, as IMHO it is easier to clean dirt off the car versus oil, antifreeze, or leaking stuff from another car loaded on the top, and dripping on your car on the bottom.....

Good luck,

A few thoughts from one who was burned:

1) If you're buying from Daniel Schmitt, I would not use the carrier they recommend. I did and lived to regret it. Can't remember the name.

2) Do not (I repeat DO NOT) accept delivery at night! Way too easy to hide scratches, etc.

3) Be sure to look very carefully at the underneath painted surfaces - especially in the rear of the car under the level of the license plate bracket and to either side - and under the front of the car as well. If the car has been secured by a chain, either the chain itself can gouge the paint, or if the chain was cranked down tight, the car could ride low enough to get trailer rash from scraping the metal ramps of the truck.

4) How's the old Crescent City? Did four years of Med School there at Tulane. It's the only place where you can visit a foreign city and still stay within the borders of the U.S! Wait. You're from Houma. Shoulda known by that great Cajun last name! Makes me homesick.

Aw man... Jambalaya! It's been soooooooooooo long!

However, my wife still makes THE BEST red beans and rice!

I'd be real tempted to drive down for Mardi Gras, except the thought of driving the shark through the snowy mountain passes of Utah in February gives me sweaty palms.

Have a great road trip with your new baby! I drove a newly-purchased 86.5 928 home from Phoenix about three years ago. The broker I bought it from didn't have any info as to how old the timing belt was, so I paid him a little extra and had him arrange for a quality mechanic to do a belt/WP/etc. replacement. I was gonna do that anyway when I got it home, and it gave me some nice peace of mind on the trip back.

As a personel note, I can recommend a few NOT to use...

1) AAA. Forget it, myself and Falkenberg were screwed big time by these idiots.

2)Intercity left my car sitting for almost one month, before I had to go with another carrier. They might give nice service but their attitude sucked.

3)Thomas Sunday. They did a good job carrying my GTS but F8cked me at the last minute. They stopped 30 miles short of the final destination, and said come get it or we'll take it to our yard (2hrs away) and charge you storage fees ($50/day). They never told me that I needed CASH at the time of delivery, which left me borrowing 1500 from friends on a Sunday morning. Wouldn't take credit cards. So, they are off my Christmas list as well.

Who do I recommend? Yourself!!!

Scott
