Default Map of fuse board

Hi,

I have some minor electrical problems in my 87 S4 - clock, cigar lighter, interior lights, tailgate release etc are all dead - and the fuse boars is my first port of call but someone seems to have pinched the chart listing what's what! Is there one I can access on the net?
Thanks
Mark
(PS Never seen so many fuses!)

Hey Dr, Check all the fuses. Sharkskin has a great write up on cleaning the fuse panel. You may want to check out his site.

Thanks for the plug, Joe!

Here's a link.

[Edit]The 87 has a more complex fuse panel, with blade instead of torpedo fuses, but the principles should be the same. Only disconnect one wire at a time from the panel![/Edit]

Check out the thread I started a little while ago about reverse lights. I had your exact same problems and they were all fixed when I replaced everyblade fuse with a new one and coated all the terminals with Stabilant. In my last post I believe, I gave the name of a place that carries it for an excellant price. Also, don't forget to pull the relays and clean their terminals also.

Dave-
Your advice good for the '85 model? I'm having the same problems with my mirrors. I'm thinking about buying the maint. manuals on disc, will all that be in there?

You won't find a procedure for this in the manuals. The 85 has blade type fuses, so the procedure will be a bit different in that area... but the fuse connectors should come apart with a dental pick or similar. If you are unsure, see if you can find a junk fuse panel to play with until you are sure you can disassemble the connections without damage. The biggest risk IMHO is getting too aggressive with the dental tool and deforming either the plastic or the terminal so much that it can't be reused.
