Thumbs up Sqeaky Brakes

Hi Guys,
I have a 86.5 928 that has very sqeaky brakes especialy when I start up move it for the first time. It seems to get some better as I drive during that pituclar trip.Would it help any to spray the caliper pens or to file the edges of the pads?
Thanks ! for any feed back that would benefit me on this.

Hi Farmer:

I have the same issue with my rear brakes only. It goes away for a short time, if I spray the calipers with water, cleaning out the dust. But it does not last long.

New Porsche pads did not make a hint of a difference.

My discs are somewhat glazed because I don't drive the car all that hard. Some day, when I feel like it, I will take the pads off and sand the edges a little. I've considered having the discs "sanded" a little.

But in the end I think I won't have any other choice than to get new discs...

I had this problem too. Mechanic said it is a chronic problem. He only uses oem pads and that is what I used when I redid the back brakes. I did replace the rotors too and so far they havent squeeked. I think it is just hit or miss.

Unhappy

I bought a set of pads from 928 INTL about two years back - they were those Aussie items - . As it turned out the old pads had 80% remaining, didn't make a lot of dust, and performed very well.
However, I had planned a bearing repack, height adjustment , line flush, tune-up , ect... for the shARKANSAS Gathering, so I replaced them as planned.
The brakes started to squeal about two months later after a car wash... folks on the Renn suggested using the brakes as hard as possible as soon as possible after they get wet.
It worked for awhile then returned... I then beveled the pads which worked for a couple months ... then flat plate sanded the pads to remove a light glaze....
still squeaked after a while so I had the rotors milled/trued, sanded the pads...
Still sqeaking, especially at start-up or low speeds??????
I saved the old pads -paper towels with dissicant bags inside a ziplock, could be my next move.
Good luck.

I haven't looked at how 928 pads are mounted yet, so this may not work. Have you tried Desqueak (or a similar anti-squeak product)? I didn't think it would work when a friend gave it to me. Since applying it, I've replace the pads on my 9000 twice and have had no squeaking. They used to queak all the time with light peddle pressure, no matter how old the pads or rotors were.

I had the chronic squeek also. An occasional power wash would stop the squeek for a few days, but it would come right back. I replaced the pads earlier this year, which were still good. The new pads that I bought (Mintex, I think) came with a thin anti-squeek pad on them. The anti-squeek pad looked useless so I gooped some CRC Disk Brake Quiet (bought at Pep Boys) all over the backs of the new pads (even on top of the anti-squeek pads), let it dry for 30 minutes and then popped them on. This stuff is similar to the rubbery tool handle coating stuff that you can get at Home Depot or Lowes.
For months after I replaced the pads, I would still be expecting to hear squeeking every time I came to a stop. I haven't heard a squeek yet.......they have been wonderfully silent. Now I hear everyone else's brakes.

The cheapo Mintex pads that I bought from 928GT.com don't squeal at all. Car stops on a dime, but fades badly on the track. When I put the expensive Hawk street plus pads on for the track, it squeals like a pig. High metalic content. Car stops on a dime, over and over and over again.

I had chronic squeak on my 740il, as well as little on my S4. Changed both cars pads and rotors. Rotors are zimmerman cross drilled on both cars. IMHO, don't cheap out on this stuff by milling rotors and greasing pads. Throw them away and start over.

I cringe everytime I hear someone talk about turning a $200 rotor - if you have to do that you need to find another hobby.....

I have been squeak free for over a year. new rotors and new pads mate to ech other perfectly.
