Let's all go to the Mardi Gras
No, seriously! I'm gonna be close February 8th and I plan on taking the car down that way and was just wondering how many other 928 owners would be down in that area. Now I'm not talking about driving right down Bourbon street, but gathering somewhere close for maybe a little fun run around New Orleans. Whatdoyasay? Any takers?

Okay, well... I wasn't really wanting to head that one up because I'm not from that area and really won't have much time to recon any routes but hey I can come up with a meeting place. I'm really looking for info from someone who lives in that area and knows of some nice roads we should hit. I don't mind being the lead vehicle though.

Sounds like fun! My family's from there (shhhhh, don't tell anybody ). My uncle may know some good routes since he heads up different parades ever year. Have to check with the fam, but my wife has never been and always wanted to go to Mardi-Gras and I haven't been since my teen years so this could be a possibility.

Deliriousga... ok if I just call you De? That would be great, again I know very little about that area and I'm going to be down at Camp Shelby, MS which is still better than an hour away. Whatever information you can bring from the family will be greatly appreciated. I'm having trouble finding a garage for my car while I'm down there for a few months. Looking very forward to the trip though. Thanx.

I'm from the area. I live about 60 miles South West of New Orleans. The place that I live is much smaller than New Orleans and not nearly as crazy of a party place but we have quiet a few VERY fun parades rolling every Friday, Sat. and Sun. starting 2 weeks before Mardi Gras and then another on Mon. and Tues. of Mardi Gras week. Like I said not NEARLY as crazy as New Orleans but safer and still allot of fun. I can check into getting a meeting place, finding a cool run, etc. together. I've never been to a 928 get together so any suggestions of what needs to be done are welcome and is there any ideas that ya'll may have of things you'd like to do while down here please feel free to suggest. Thoughts that pop into mind to me are: I could check with local Parade organizers and see what it would take for us to actually ride our cars in one of the Parades, I could see if I could find us a place along the Parade route to park as a group to watch the Parades. I can look for a cruizing route for us through the swamp roads or would open highway be better? and then there's always New Orleans too! ........... lots of possiblities.
P.S.......... Mardi Gras is Tuesday Feb 8th the First Parade rolls for us on Friday night Jan. 28th and continue up until Mardi Gras.

Yeah, thats what I'm talking about! All we need for a fun run is a meeting place, a good route with roads that will compliment our cars, a decent eatery to drop in on along the way (reservations), and a stopping place perferably party area with lots of hotels nearby. Abby, any way you could help Brent with some of those details? Whooah, I love it when a plan comes together.

Brent-My fam is in Belle Chasse (I think it's NW of the city). That's probably where we'll stay, but can go wherever the parades are. Let me know if I need to get info from my uncle and I'll help you with setup.
The wife laughed the last time we were there for a wedding. After you're there for a day you start to go back into "cajun mode". The talk starts to flow and she looks at you and says "who are you?"
Like Brent said, lots of great parades all over without going into the city. It's difficult w/ traffic to get into town and impossible to park.

I'll need to start getting an idea of who is interested so I can get a rough number. Mardi Gras books up the hotels early. If we are going to do this we need to plan it well in advance.
Abby, I'll send you a private message and we'll toss a few things around.

Hey keep in mind, we don't have to meet right in town, around all the crouds. The last fun run I went on we parked at a mall 6 miles away and all took the bus down to the Octoberfest (aka: drunkenfest). The small places will be fine too as long as I get to see the sites and pick up a few beads along the way.
