Default Recently Installed Eclipse AVN

This is what my installation looks like in a 1987 S4... I had to replace the wood trim to get it done with aluminum which matched the Momo stuff. The AVN can link to external camera and video, but it does not do any performance displays.

See : http://www.eclipse-web.com/products/avn/avn_top.htm

The install was just under $4K

That's nice
Yes performance measuring is one interesting feature. This allows to sustain one clean inside and get rid of all those meters.
Now i understand why it would be interesting to get rid of the fan **** and the stuff around too....this looks...well...strange
in the end the good combination is one good double DIN screen and all needed to emulate the climate control and everything aboard.
I have to buy one shark to play with

Ok now i got the infra-red camera i will do the first tries this week end.
This one is not intended to be exposed to moisture but will allow to make the benchmarks as rear camera. The front one is 100% waterproof in a beautiful aluminium case intended to be mounted as a tiny light lens. This is for near future but back to the rear infra-red camera

The GPRS is still on study and this promise to be affordable, the mails and internet in car are on the way

Quick picture in low res took with IR camera in full black room.
It's not me on the picture but my son

The first tries shows one thing, a better infra-red projector is required but it works fine anyway and the auto adjust of the cam works fine too when transitions between full dark and daylight occurs.

The plus of the IR beam is that you can lighten areas where it isn't usually allowed i.e when car is coming from the other side of the road. With IR no problem the beam is not visible You can see better and not disturb others. Now i have to build one IR projector, i will probably dismantle a flashlight and insert the IR source in a way the source uses the reflector to enhance the IR beam or i will buy cheap fog lights to rework them with IR source instead the original fog lights bulb
Night vision is coming

I add that to make the IR sensitivity better i will certainely add a system to lower tempertature by 15 or 20° C with an ambiant temperature offset. How ?
Well with something which works with electric energy and doesn't need neutral gases to operate but this is not a climate system too.
By doing this it will increase things displayed i.e any significant warm source being mechanical or biological should be better displayed.

a suggestion for how you might get more sales.. if the IR lamps for the cameras just happened to "accidently" flood the spectrum used by speed checking lasers, some people may appreciate the side effect.

Lol that's a brilliant idea but i don't think it would work while the laser light emitted by speed cameras is certainely in a different wave lenght but after all why not.
To be honest i ignore the value of the wave range of the laser speeding cameras.

Would that be a thermoelectric heat pump wafer, like the ones pioneered by Melcor?

Nice, in fact this wafer mounted on heatsink is one Pelletier effect, so a heat pump, you got it

heh. That's what I thought. I first saw these some 20 years ago, when they were only available as bare devices like the one on this page from Melcor when they were first getting started. I'm guessing from what you described that you're going to go with something similar to this?

Yes this is the best solution for embedded automotive constraints, water cooling can't be so efficient so that's why i will use this kind of things. The cam casing is made of steel or alloy so the temperature transmission will be fine and in the end i should get the expected result, lowering the case temperature and by the way helping the cam to fetch more informations

Integrated audio/video/GPS nav & entertainment system; diagnostic output to the screen, plus really cool rear infrared camera input. All plug & play for the price of a mere baguette...

Hello since the last time i came i'm planning to add connectivity with a Motorola RAZR V3 which have Bluetooth and GPRS features.

http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/pro.../0,,69,00.html

The idea is to let the system i made to manage communications without having to play with the cellular.
I'm just starting writing the code, in prevision adress book synchronization with picture of the caller displayed to the touch screen, automatic managing of the sound when incoming or outgoing call, fetching mails and read them aloud through the voice synthesis using the GPRS mode of the phone, fetching traffic, wheater informations from the internet and it'll be all for this winter.
I think it should be usefull as i'm sitting long time in car every day and i would like this experience the most comfortable as possible.
Now time to code. I'll post few pics when i will have advanced enough to make this add-on significant.
