I guess we know where Nicole's old 928 went! You both have good taste-

Chris your body guy welded an aluminum fender and door and a steel rear. Did you tell him that or did he know enough? And how hard is it to close up holes on both surfaces?

N?

I'm sure you know this but the doors are aluminium. You probably meant the quarters are steel.

The welder said the rear quarters were harder to weld than the doors/fenders, he thinks because it was thinner, I did tell him the rears were steel but I think he forgot he soon worked it out though.

Good info on sealing, I planned to prime and then put on some sealer, absolutely don't want any bubbling !

I'll be interested in how it works out.

If any is proud of the surface, it'll take some (more?) grinding. Then use an Al surface prep on door and fender, then etching primer, then spot putty to cover it well, sand it down, guide coat it and decide if it's enough. I'd expect several go-rounds before it's really smooth.

Yes the case was the same on my 928 (the rear being harder, of course if you recall I had lots of welding to do in many areas of The PRDATR).

I went through a period of about three months attempting to figure out the bubbling issues. I rewelded, painted, and sealed at least 3 times until applying the sealant that MercsBnz uses to seal all interior surfaces of its cars and my bubbling problem never came back after a coat of that stuff.

Somehow I recall a tube of that stuff being awfully expensive (somewhere between $30-60 per toothpaste sized tube).

"LOTS OF WELDING ON THE PRDATR IN ALL AREAS"

The lines on my 928 were so much more beautiful without the body side moulding.

Not to mention upgrading the front bumper cover. I think the more rounded shape of the S4-on front cover matches the original rear bumper much better. Did you have to replace the fenders too?

Actually I don't but Mercedes Benz manufactures it as a sealant that goes inside all of their automobiles. Any MB dealesr part center will know exactly what it is.
