Default On my way to work after lunch.....

So I'm crusing to the awesome new sounds of my Test Pipes and RMB when I see this little silver 'vette up ahead. Looks like a C5, anyway..... I got behind him at a light with two open lanes in front of us. He takes off from the light, I guess he must be afraid to lose cause he didn't even let me get next to him first. I launched slow figuring he let me get next to him first. I caught up to him and he slammed on his brakes and pulled off. I bet he thinks he won. What a wiener, he wussed out of me getting next to him first then he turned off before I was going to pass him. Anyway, these new Test pipes roar at 4k. I just love it. I suppose this is my last week before winter, so I'd figure I've got to have a few last hurrah's before she's go under the covers.

Anybody know what those C5's run for HP, Torque, 0-60mph.? My car is stock except for the Test Pipes and RMB, whatcha think maybe 275 or so at the wheels, '87 S4 5-spd?

No laws were broken as far as you know. I admit to nothing. I don't condone street racing, keep it on the track. Do as I say not as I do.

Curt,
The 2004 C5 has 345 CI and 350 HP, 360 torque - not sure about the newer ones and not sure about the vehicleweight.
Test pipes and RMB - does this mean you have no resonator(s) or muffler(s) at all? Just straight through?

Ha ha ha. He probably would've smoked me, if he was a good driver. No the less, it's always fun to try.

Yeah, I'm running Straight pipes to the resonators (which are just straight perforated pipes) through the straight RMB. So pretty much straight pipes. Anybody dynoed an S4 with this configuration? I have yet to make it to the dyno to see what I'm at.

Wink

Stock C5 is around a second faster in both the 1/4 and 0-60. It wouldn't have been to close, you would have started pulling on him~70-80 and it would be over once you got into the triple digits.

Or, you could install nitrous and call it a day.

Sorry, the C5 tops out around 165 so it would still stay ahead almost until top speed. Once again, nitrous, and there wouldn't be any issues! Or, a SC I guess.

NO2. oh yeah ... that would be a gas ... I'm thinking a couple of bottles back where the spare tire used to be? Well, OK, maybe a NOSzle Direct Port with, say, four 20 lb bottles. Ummmm .. oh yeah and some water injection too. Should make about , oooo, a tad under 300 extra HP for a few minutes anyway.

I think you could get a drag chute packed back there too maybe right under the spoiler.

Cheers,

Dave

C5 ZO6s are just about perfect competition for the 928S4. remember, the T1 record by a top pro at laguna seca is 1:40.xx, the ole Holbert car is 1:40.2. now, there is a weight difference there, but call it at least within a second or so with the right weight. most Z06 C5s are 335 rear wheel hp, same as the holbert car. In my races in SCCA , the S4 has always beaten any of the Z06s that have shown up. there is one in particular that will eventually be faster, once the driver gets a season or two under his belt (stock Z06, with cams and headers, putting 410 hp at the wheels!!)

I would think that a stock C5 (non Z06) would be a perfect match in almost all areas as the stock with some exhaust mods and some weight removed.

wanna see the what the Z06 looks like on the track,

MK, the most intense part of that little video is missing....the part where you are on his tail through the curves and fighting to get around him. That was a good battle you fought . It was only a matter of "when" you got around him, not "if".

If the vette is in the mood and he/she is equally agressive to the sHARk driver ... straight line they will win more than lose. If it's a 51 series or a 06 they will dominate as a rule of thumb,
and that means 0-180 plus mph.
I haven't seen skidpad/slalom speeds or G testing on a stock 928 of any year if they are out there in print somewhere, but those vette's are very respectable.
Anecdotal racing stories aside if I were to bet on a RACE between a stock late model vette and a healthy, stock sHARk of ANY year my money is on the vette.
There is no loss of face losing to a vette, they have continued developement while we were beached for whatever reason in 1995.
