Samantha -- just curious. There are two sorts of radar jammers advertised -- passive, which is worthless; and active, which is illegal (under federal law).
Laser jammers are a different story. The feds haven't started regulating those wavelengths . . . yet.

Ron,
99% certain (100% would take some legal research).
California, Minnesota, and Utah apparently outlaw laser jammers, though. If I lived in one of those states, I probably wouldn't advertise the fact that I had a laser jammer.

Mark and Heinrich:
Thanks. I'll inform my friend. He surely wouldn't want to be placed in a compromising position.![Cool](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif)
As I understand it, laser is so accurate that it is on you before you know it since you can't depend on scatter and dispersion to alert you. It is usually focused on your license plate or your headlights.(928s during the day are somewhat difficult targets, particularly if your front plate happens to be mounted lower than normal at an "increased" angle.
) The jammer will confuse the laser gun by returning the signal and it will not display a reading. An alarm goes off as well, and you have a few seconds before the jammer shuts itself off to yank the handbrake, drop anchor or whatever method you prefer to slow the car before this happens and the gun resumes displaying the speed. You must react instantly. If the officer senses his gun is being jammed or he sees your car drastically decellerate (nose dip), he will suspect some hanky panky. If he stops you and discovers the jammer....well, we won't go there.
The jammer needs an antenna somewhere in the line of sight of the laser beam. At least that's what a little bird told me once.
Happy motoring.
