Powder coat, I had them painted and they are not a patch on my powder coated intake.

When i get the chance going to get the valve covers stripped and powder coated, learnt my lesson.

I was thinking bright red. I know the originals are powdercoated, but I wasn't sure when redoing them.

Tony,

Where and how much did it cost to get those done like that? Do they have a website? One other question, did you have the cable mechanism plated or is it just new? That is beautiful.

I had them done at a place here in Vegas. I was going to go grey to match my interior, then use red letters but when i walked in to the shop and saw this sample on the wall i was sold.
140bucks..but i had a bunch of other stuff done.
160 ish in plating of a whole bunch of parts.

Id do it again in a heart beat and will on my spare motor.

Just a question, is there any reason why I can't have my 4.5lt covers done? It appers that there isn't really even a valve cover. I was definitely going to have the intake done. But wasn't sure about the heads. I agree with going with the powdercoat over painting, there is no comparison when it comes to durability.

Chris,

The 16V engines have a cam carrier versus the cam cover on the 32V engines. It can be done but takes more gaskets and elbow grease. I was thinking about painting mine on its next TB change, but now I will go with powder coating. Anyone want to buy some 1200F paint?

I was going to go with the powder coat routine, but found that liquid painting has come a long ways and the parts are baked and clear coated. Finish is supposed to last the life of the car...I have a warranty for that . I was very pleased with the results and will definately do it again. Anyone that saw the car at Sharktoberfest will agree as to how good it looks. The parts look "wet"!

Keith, that is a good looking engine bay. Can you post the specifics on the paint you used, on the intake and cam covers.

Keith-- You ready to change the avatar to the new engine shot? IMHO, it's a tiny bit nicer than the '82 engine bay. Not a lot though... Both of those engines are in show condition now. For those that haven't seen them in person, the pictures do not do them justice. Lots of hard work and time invested, and it shows.

I'll be in touch with you over the winter to talk about your painter. I've been talking up my TB job for over a year, and it's really getting to be time. Belt is low miles but over six years old now. Yep, it's time...

Did the painter have a color match to the original? Much as I like some of the color combos I've seen lately, I'm still thinking original color would be best for me.
