the front of the engine has a lot of 86 qualities. when we mounted the 87 pump, we noticed that it didnt fit due to the differences in the threaded raised boss. so, we matched the original pump which was an 86 style. Lots of other differences based on the fact that the chassis was an 86 to begin with too. even the fuel rails look and are fitted like 86 near the damper area.
cams were probably just 85s with the ends cut, but we wont know exactly until we get them off the car. maybe they worked so well and when they redesigned the cams for the official 87 S4, later they knew the advantages to HP and made them into GT cams with some minor duration tweeks.
I did have that one-off computer, but it was swapped for a pure stock S4 brain set before i got the car. (however, i do have the hand written on brain still)
