Default Goin' for a test drive!

a pretty black 911 caught my attention at a dealership on Olympic. I was thinking about stopping there tomorrow in my nicest of clothes and telling them that I was thinking of "down-grading" because the V-8 sucks up too much gas. Plus I hate getting recognized when I go out in public, so I would rather blend in and drive what all the other non-celebrities drive! later i will decide i hate the car because it's not unique enough for me.

not that i need an excuse to test drive a car, I just like to do a little role playing sometimes!

I'll tell ya'll how it goes.

chris

p.s. no i'm not in the market for a 911. I'm a 928 kinda guy. I just want a taste.

Chris,

I used to do this a lot when I was going to college. I wouldn't dress up too much, just enough... then go out looking for test drives. Just got a scholarship, dad's going to buy me a car, blah blah blah. I had opportunities to drive lots of fun cars this way. Probably the most fun was an Audi Quattro, early eighties. The salesman drove like a maniac trying to scare me... then I took the wheel and got him to show the white knuckles.

I had an amazing amount of fun with this... I was told to bring my dad along when I tried to get a 928 test drive, though I managed a 911SC and a 944. It was a great way for a broke college kid to get some entertainment.

Seen that all too often...

Was trying to sell one of my Lotus Esprits a few years ago. Guy calls from Wash. DC wants to come see it. I spend a day getting it out of storage, cleaning it, washing it... After a 1/2 hour test drive he says he's not looking to buy just wanted to drive one. Boy did he get the royal treatment after that.
From then on, I charge $20 for a test drive, refundable on purchase.

Scott
p.s. Mr Bailey, can you shrink your signature picture? It's really mucking up my screen settings.

I could say the same about your sig bogarting 1/16 of all the cabs

How did you like the Lotus?

Saw one Sunday right after I got home, I pulled away from it so fast I wondered if it worked properly. Some of them look nice.

TomRedUfo;

I tried selling you one of the cabs, but Noooo, you had to go and get yourself a sweeet 85 low mileage bright red 5 spd Euro. That's fine...you go ahead and drive your nice 85. But just remember how hot it'll be next summer. And boy that Cab would have been coool.

AFA a Lotus, best handling car I own. Right up there with the NSX and it's stability/traction control system. I'll tell you a funny story; I bought my current Esprit in SF. I hooked up with Chris Fullerton(in New Brunswick) and his 85 928 in Needles, Ca and we followed each other all the way to Saxton, Pa. At every fuel/food stop, people would gather around my Esprit just gawking. Round about Tennesee at a fuel stop, Chris comes up to me and says "I'm pissed, nobody is paying any attention to my car!" After that, I let him take the good spots at the pump to help his ego out. he he he

What cab was for sale?

I thought about buying the red on that was on ebay. Got the dealer talked down to under 10k. But I told him the rims are crap. The interior needs to be replaced and its crap. I'd have to 8k into that car just to get it decent looking. Then on top of it, its a 79 manual, versus owning a 5 speed Euro.

Those owners had the car since 91 and can't sell it?

Anyway which is faster a 928 or your Lotus? I have considered getting one of those too. Not going to keep 2 red sharks for long.

Very true Scott. I pulled in at a restaurant and just then two ladies walk past, look at my car then a few yards away stop dead in their tracks at a lexus, and one says to the other as they swoon over the thing (as if to pi$$ me off) .... "I need to get myself a nice little sportscar like this" .....
