So let me qualify my statement to say that the 2CV is a lousy long distance Autobahn tourer :-)
Thilo,
You're right, Autobahn trips in a 2CV are nerve wrecking to say the least and I suppose the Netherlands qualify as one big urban conglomerate. Sadly enough

As to southern German accents: I was in Baden Würtemberg and Bayern last summer and found the locals to be very hard to understand, especially the abundant use of the expression "Gell" or something, really got to me after two days

We really should find a group of people with immaculate cars to show up next year at the classic races at the Nurbürgring. I was there this summer and the representation of the 928 community left rather a lot to be desired. Between all the shiny pampered 911's.

Not to hijack the thread, but yes that's Steve in my avatar...and the pic is a movie promotional from the Great Escape. That said, what's wrong with the picture?

So, he's riding a stolen German Army bike, at least that's the premise. Look a bit closer and note that it's a then current (1962) Triumph 650, painted olive drab. Seems the BMW's more historically correct weren't up to the jump at the end.

Good luck out there. I wish I could take my car out to the 'ring. There's no track like it on Earth. Here's a rennlist post with a link to video of Hans Stuck qualifying in his BMW M3 V8 this year.

https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...78&postcount=6

The whole video is crazy but the run from Hohe Acht to the Karrusell (about 7:00 to 8:00 in the video) in particular makes the hairs on my neck stand on end.

No problem, I will have a permanent spare seat, the automatic speed control is staying at home. I posted the hotel details in my first post

BTW, anybody have advice about the bikers. As a novice, I found it hard to get by them on the curves since I did not in which curves they planned to use the whole road and which they didn't. most them did not automatically leave enough room for cars.

Hmm.. I checked the flight prices and all the cheap ones are already booked and the Cup car doesn't have suitable tires for a drive like that this season..

Winter wheels would probably run me about USD800 or so but then tires are only a part of the issue. I think it would be a bit of a shame to use the Cup car in snowy weather since the risk of salt on the roads. It has no inner fenders so it would be extremely sensitive to rust.
