928 vs 911 Turbo
So, is a supercharged 928 a match for the 911 Turbo? Seems to me like the weights have crept up in the 911 - the new car weighs 3505 pounds - closer to 3600 with the tiptronic!!!!

which turbo? posted 0-60 times for the displacement type blower are comparable if not better i think than the 996 turbo. the turbo is suposed to be a great drive in all kinds of weather (with 4wd) but less involving, i think i prefer rwd only with a lsd more GT2.. but then there are the looks to consider!

Let's assume a 996 twin turbo, Make it an S with the x50 pacakge if you like. Assume 928 supercharged, suspension upgrades, big brakes, etc.
Looks!!!!!!! like the shark needs help in that department!!!!

I have followed a ~1980 930 around, onto freeways and off a while ... as he tried gettign away from me. He was VERY powerful as his engine spooled up, but at initial take-off and top end, the S4 had him beat ... it was only during his apparent hig-rev-range that he was able to pull away a little, and not much. That was my n/a S4.
Soon she'll be supercharged, and I expect at least that 930 would be left in the dust in a very big way. I have also been trounced by turbo 996's .. like I was standing still. So I don't know what effect the SC will have ... who has the numbers?

The turbo has better traction( rear weight bias) but especially a late 4 wd version. Finding a stock early 930 that is willing to race would be rare with many 930s having had all kinds of upgrades. There is something very addictive about forced induction and after a taste EVERYONE wants more ! The question of which is faster probably depends on the kind of race, 0-60, 0-100, 40-120, straight line, twisty, very twisty , parking lot autocross............... Bonneville salt flats, but in many of these the drivers ability makes a big difference . And we all know in an Open Road Race , 500 hp or so can get a stock body 928 up to 200 mph or so .

Funny you should ask.....last nite I was replacing my s/c belt and took the car out for a run around the block. My shop is in an industrial area and after 6pm there is not a sole around for miles. As I came to a four way stop there was a black 996 to my left just waiting by the side of the road with his lights on and engine running...as I passed by I couldn't help my self and punched it as I got to his open window. He smiled and punched it as well, but I was gone. At the next stop I turned rite and he followed so I stoped and rolled down the window. He said " that thing is fast" I said yep! he said he had heard me going around the block the first time and wanted to see what kind of car it was. His was a new to him 911 turbo, when we were done talking we just happened to leave at the same time . His car was fast but he went from my side window, to side view mirror, to rearview mirror before I got out of second gear!! not that we were racing or anything like that.

I happened to be a passenger in a supercharged 928 during an encounter with a 930. Coming out of a corner the 930 punched it first. The supercharged 928 then did the same. The 930 got very small in the 928's rear view mirror very quickly.
Below is a G-Tech run from an '03 twin turbo with the X50 package.

I hope quite well. Modern max performance tires (SO-3's), Bilstein/Eibach coilovers, and awaiting delivery of a Murf Supershark kit. Performance should be close, except for traction issues. The 993 and 996 turbos have AWD, and 996's have PSM/traction controls.

Well according to that g-tech run I have him beat in my '87 s4 auto with only 7 psi on 0-60. And that is at 60+ pounds above stock weight. At 10-11 psi I would match his 1/4th. If I dropped some weight I could take him at both 0-60 and 1/4th mi. Thats just talking acceleration. I wont guess on handling.
I'll add that Shane is only .3 second off his 0-60 and .7 off his 1/4th in Heidi his 86 auto SUPERMODEL.
PJ's '87 S4 auto SUPERMODEL with 220,000miles is .8 sec behind him in the 1/4th.
