Answer: "Why are the 928 Supercharger Kits so Expensive?"

What about comparisons to Corvette kits?
Corvette Vortech kit
Click on the "566 RWHP C5" icon in the center of that page for the pricing on thier basic kit.
The Devek stage 2 headers are $950. Maybe we should we be comparing the price of those to the price of Mustang headers too then.

Kits cost time and money and like someone said some brain power to get it right.
Carl is in business... he would like to make money. I think Andy would like to as well
The real question is why are they so cheap compared to what Gemballa, Calloway, or a stroker mod would cost. Granted cars by those companies mod the engines in some cases for the boost... but arent they basically a $3000 kit and selling for 30k or more.

Carl isn't lying, he has no reason to. I don't see a problem with keeping listers and vendors honest, but I'd say if there is a difference, then it must be because different vendors offer different kits. My experiences with Carl have been that he clearly is above-board, in as much as I can see. Personally I think, if we held all the 928 vendors to this high a standard of correct communications, we'd have only one vendor .... and you know who that is ..... and even they aren't perfect.

Gretch -
Boy are you ever correct with that one. Hence the need for "Stages" for different priorities. Just like software - we have our "Power Users" who want every bell and whistle we can get, and we have our customers that complain if the software has too many bells and whistles -
But I beleive my customers with pre-85 928s will hit the price ceiling sooner than Tim's customers will. Tim and I have talked many times about how different our customer bases are. An $8k investment on your 18 to 40K S4, GT, or GTS is one thing, but the early group is not as willing to bolt that much onto their cars (it seems) all in one chunk. I can price this thing right out of what they are willing to spend on their old car. So, we try hard to keep costs in check. We are in it for the long haul - no intent to make all the money in a single sale.
I feel bad for my 944 Turbo friends. They had their "Big 3" too for turbo upgrades and performance parts. But I have heard that Huntley Performance has just gone out of business. They were good guys and did some nice 944 development. They will be missed. And the 944 group has one fewer place to turn to for answers.
On the Mustang kit, even the SC mounting bracket was left out from the stated list.
Supercharger
Supercharger mounting bracket
190 LPH in-line fuel pump
"Powerchip"
By-pass valve
FMU
K&N Air Filter

there are several classes of "customers" and they all have different prioreties.

Z - you are right, why are we comparing it to a Mustang kit, why not a Corvette kit?
Even better - why not other 928 kits! Like the "M Jordan" analogy (all on the same court at the same time) wouldn't that be a little closer to it?

bcdavis - but why would cost be no object? Cost does matter.
It is price/what is received that = perception of value.
...and "what is received" is: service before the sale, service after the sale, form, function, packaging, and real and perceived quality.
I do not have a Lamborghini Countach. I'd like one. Cannot afford one. The Porsche 928 was the best Supercar that I could afford. Price matters.
Price always matters.

That's a good question guys. I can'y figure out how 928 Motorsport takes a $2.45 made in Korea bearing and jacks the prie up to $250.00. You can buy the correct Powerdyne bearin a made in the USA KBC bearing for you impeller shaft for about $17.00. Write me at brad.allore@yahoo.ca and I'll give you the KBC part number. By the way the 928 Impellers are **** & crack.
