Default Unidentified noise

The first time I brake after a change in direction (forward/reverse), I hear a sharp metallic snapping sound. Never more than once. Any ideas?

Sounds like:

-Loose caliper
-Too-small brake pad(s)
-Something loose is shifting fore-and-aft elsewhere in the car when you do this.

Maybe a bad retaining spring on one caliper. The big pretzel shaped wire spring that holds the pads in. If its lost tension, the pads move up and down and may clank.
